Yes , production and industry are the foundation of an economy.Thinking you are going to remain on top because you control the other aspects while the foundation is moved els ware is short sighted.Just an opinion.

 

Nothing wrong with adding "tech" to your profile.It is desirable and to stay the leading superpower it is necessary.Loosing manufacturing industries not only costs jobs but also dilutes the skill base of future generations.These predominantly blue collar jobs are the bulk of the middle class that contribute to the economy.As important at law enforcement , fire fighting , teaching, nursing to name a few are , they are supportive to the workforce of production side.With out production income, who is going to fund these? I don't think the tech industries have the employment potential volumes to absorb the manufacturing employment losses. This is a slippery slope. Buy local when at all possible. It may cost more and you may have to get by on a bit less but do it for the future of you children.

 

we keep learning, often too late, that cheap crap is just that - cheap crap! When it breaks or wears out after just one use, that's OK if that's all you wanted, but it's not economical in the long run to use #### that breaks when you're depending on it, or gives up the ghost B4 any reasonable service life is up. Japanese used to make cheap junk just to get $, now their products are quality ones, and some of the "junk" comes from right here..... Haven't seen "quality" from China yet, but their day is coming as well. Fighting Fake goods is a start, but promoting & making quality goods, that are WORTH the extra price to buy them, is the real answer IMHO....

There is a new US wheel manufacturer out there that sells a nice aluminum wheel that retails for about $250.00... wish I could remember the name!

I hope more companies will talk up that their stuff is Made in America if it actually is & more importantly hope buyers realize what it truly means! I noticed Forgitron had it marked pretty well!
