I have been with them for 2 years so I can speak and give a honest review of this company. 100% truth.

They will put you in PA, NY, NJ right after your time-off. you will get 200-300 miles runs (>42000 lb load) all the time in the northeast regions. USA charge shipper hourly and pay you per mile rate.

Dispatch are very inefficient and slow. I never talk to them because they are irresponsible. Night dispatch are even worst, and very verbally offensive if they are in bad mood.

on-road people hardly answer the phone... they would purposely avoid picking up the phone or make u wait for 30 mins. Same as qualcomm, you would rarely get a quick response from dispatch unless they want to know something more than you do. (e.g. your truck breakdown... send qualcomm msg # 1pm, on-road reply # 2pm, 3pm another msg said they are working on a plan... @5pm msg: are you sitting on side of road? i pray alot not to have a breakdown.

they would make the last minute change on load just because they can. (e.g. You are dispatched a load for 500 miles... these dispatch would make the last minute change. Instead, you would get another load for 200 miles for their planning mistakes) yes, your living is on these people's hands.

if u are in lerado, TX... they would make u wait 2 days even if you see hundreds of trails sitting on drop yard, then you would get a 25 miles load going Academy 0700 in the morning... of course, no detention.

most of the terminals for USA trucks are more or less no-man land... rarely anyone is there to help after 5pm...u are on your own if you are in trouble. or, u have to wait until monday when your fleet manager is on.

shop people dont know your truck more than you do. One mechanic even forgot to put the coolant cap back on after a b-service. I got stuff stolen in the past from shop. don't trust any of these shop people because they really dont know much about your truck.

that is why i quit... there was just constant amount of stress working with idiots.

NEVER GET STARTED FROM USA... you are warned.

    Regards,
    Joe.

Depends on where you live or your sometime requirements

Both you listed are starter companies

USA is more of a training outfit than Western is

    Hope that helps

neither USA or West are good company. for all possible cause, get your CDL with your own fund. If you get through with their school program you will owe them $4k and this money will be deducted from your weekly paycheck.. for two years(slowly), which means you are not taking home much. Western is about the same I talked one driver he said they are starting at .26 cpm. USA has alot of unhappy drivers; lot of log violations, force dispatch, night dispatch never answer the phone. one night dispatch handle 550 drivers at night... if you dont believe it you could call their 1800 # at night... this company is a total rip-off joke. benefits after one yr of service, no short haul pay, no dentention, no layover, just miles pay. reimbursement takes a very long time to arrive to your comdata account..

Also, USA will cheat you on your miles. I have a GPS and their paid miles were always about 10% less than actual miles.

There aren't alot of companies that pay actual miles...

I've used MapIt, GoogleMap, etc... several times to compare, and they match the paid miles within a few miles (681 miles paid -vs- 685 on map -vs- 713 actual). This doesn't make the wallet any fatter, or me feel any better, but at least I know they aren't completely pulling the number out of thin air.

That's normal with most carriers , most try to pay
HMG or House Hold Movers Guide , which is bout
8-10% off give or take 1%

Some pay practical , some hub , but house hold would prob be bout 70% of major carriers

I worked for USA for 2.5 months and I had a hard time turning in my truck at the Fontana drop yard because the yard was full of trucks from quitting drivers! Everything the OP said is absolutely true! Stay away from this BFI co!
