1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

If anyone finds out about that lease deal, fill us in please. Someone said you pay 15-20k AFTER you run it for 30 months, another thinks "residual" means $6275 at the end of 30 months.

They have it worded so that one could take it either way if they were not familiar with leases/buyouts.

"Residual" to me means what would be left over at the ned of 30 payments ($6275)
If this is true and the warranty really covers majors, someone with lousy credit could get into a decent tractor this way...no?

Residual to me is what the bank values the truck at, at the end of the lease. The residual value is calculated at the beginning of the lease.

I know an owner operator who is leased to them. She seems to like working with them. I have spoken to other owner operators who are leased to them. Most to whom I have spoken like them. I am sure that they have their pros and cons just like most other carriers.

I am not sure if their operators make any money. Most of the ones we see in Dubuque have ugly equipment.

I would not necessarily discount any carrier just because some of their owner operators have older or "ugly" equipment. They may just not want to go head over heels in debt. More of the experienced owners have decided that it may be better to rebuild or maintain an older truck than deal with some of the problematic newer engines. Some who driver older trucks feel that they don't need to impress other drivers with a shiny new truck with a big payment that may not be affordable, especially with a down economy. I would be more interested in whether they are making money. An older truck won't tell you how much money that owner makes. It only tells you that he may have other priorities than supporting new truck manufacturers.
