I'll take issue with some of these statements:
My Argosy with 500 HP Detroit has averaged 7.1 mpg for the history of the truck- 1.2 million miles, hauling all sorts of loads/trailers etc.
As I said in my original post, most drivers have not had the opportunity to drive a modern(post 2000 model year) cabover which has addressed issues like poor insulation/heating systems. Mine is just as comfy as any conventional.
The cab is raised with an electric motor, exposing every part of the chassis. My Detroit diesel dealer has said his mechanics prefer working on my truck because of that layout, including replacing the engine.

Hawk: I didn't know that cabovers were still manufactured in the US. Are today's models comfortable? The selling point would have to be the fuel mileage those things get.

Modern COE are quite smooth nowadays even though you are closer to the steering axle. Especially the European ones.
They have better visibility and maneuverability.
There engine and transmission are more exposed when the cab is tilted thus easier to work on. They are not cold in winter. As far as aerodynamic profile is concerned I was surprised to learn that a good COE is better then a conventional.

I think that a misconception is created because of the state of older COE. I,m not trying to defend the COE but they really are not what they once were. Some of modern ones do drive every bit as well as a conventional. There are pros and cons for both.As far as space is concerned it is possible to get more space out of a COE if you add a non tilting box behind the cab. From a business point if you can use a conventional they are cheaper to purchase and they cost less to repair
after small accidents or fender benders.

I thought cabovers lost favor due to their total lack of aero leading to bad fuel milage? Along with everything previously mentioned.

I know I learned to drive a truck in an old International cabover. At first it was cool but after a bit I hated that truck. And then when I drove a day cab conventional I knew I never wanted in that PoS cabover again. lol

As I said it was a surprise to me that COE are more aerodynamic.COE's have really come a long way.

The worlds most fuel efficient truck. It does not say it is the most aerodynamic but it has to be good.

I always thought it was the mileage thing too. TO be honest, I remember my dad driving a cabover and always wanted to try one. He drove his cross country, and even took me on a trip from our home in Iowa trip Louisiana one time. I like the way some of those old KW's and Freightliners look. :)

Just look at the pictures or go to truckstop. 94% of drivers are FAT and cant get in a cabover. The other 20% are lazy. BWAHAHAHA:biggrin_25514:

:biggrin_2556: Here i thought cab overs were made for the ta truckstop's cause all them 18 wheelers with skateboard spread axels couldnt make the turn in those truckstop's , thus taking the hoods off with em, so ta truckstop , said the heck with it and made it a only a cab over truckstop:biggrin_25523:yes im a short stuff 5-2 and let me tell you thats a long streacth too wash that windsheild, and learn too drive too ca in eagle int cabover for crst , no cruise , no nothen , but i learn about fixing cabovers too, cause every time you shift that 9 speed the handel would come outa the transmission :biggrin_25523: then i got real good at finding the hole , the rear jack for cab , always froze up in the winter time, then they a briallant move crst did and put a big plastic thing under the front bumper, now i looked like a bus, didnt improve my milage ether, but sure was fun running over those parking lots bumps then backing up and making a fart sound :biggrin_25523:but even tho that truck was a pieace of junk, it was still my first truck i drove across country solo,so weird as it sounds, i seen a gold eagle for $4,599 double axel out back, or just like i drove back then, if i had the ten acers too store it , i probly buy it for old times and have fun with it, too me it was a sharp looking truck with all that chrome on front,:biggrin_25524: Everett.
