i know this is probably an unfair question, but need to know. as a newbie going through co sponsored cdl training like central or millis or even swift, what would one expect to gross yearly. i've run all kinds of averages and numbers based on the co's saying 2500 miles a wk or $35k a yr. if a newbie works hard, keeps the obligations thrown at him with no violations in the mix, what could i expect or shoot for. yeah, i know it really depends on the miles vs pay, but just looking for a good estimate from folks who have been there. i need to make a decision here very soon and this is an important variable. thanks.
financial question for a wannabe

I'd get some more opinions first............................
Alot of drivers don't hit those numbers !!!!!!!!!!! -
I went through a training school. My first year I grossed almost $45k. That was back in 01. Old log book rules. I ran hard and the pay per mile was .35. Only .02 cents a mile went to paying school.
It would be hard to get that kind of deal now days. I think my total bill for school was around $2000. The .02 a mile deal was there as long as I continued to work for the company. If I quit the balance was due immediately.
I continued until the bill was paid in full. I've never regreted getting into truckdriving. There is some grants out there that will pay for your school if you go to a state sponsered school. Go to your local vo-tech or college and ask the financial department about it. Good luck. -
I went to Schneider's training academy in the beginning of March 2004, actually hauled my first paying load mid April. Was working a $9 an hour job before I went there. My 2004 gross income (from all sources) was about $27k. Keep in mind you are going to have 1-2 months of almost no net income while you train (what you get in training pay will mainly go to keeping body and soul together and to getting gear).
I was earning 29-30 cpm and averaged something like 2300 miles and $720 a week. -
part of me really wants to do this, though the thought of missing my kids is keeping me from just jumping in. i've been at 0 income since june so right now $400 a week looks good

If you get on with somebody, do OTR for about a year then start looking for a regional job or possibly local. You prolly will not get a local job w/no OTR experience. Keep a clean driving and DAC record.

Please trust me.............go to Lowes or Home Depot....................
After expenses, you'll make as much, or more, than a otr driver.............
plus you'll know your family !!!!!!Hanadarko Thanks this.
