Back in April of this year I got my CDL-A after a long period of unemployment. (the industry I was involved in moved to Mexico and China for the most part) But anyway....
Got a job doing local delivery ,seasonal work. I figured "a job till I get a better one". On the third day of training I fell and blew out my knee.
Therapy, surgery, more therapy, and now I'm as good as new ... no restrictions ..... everything works.
My question : Should I tell potential new employers of my misfortune ???
I only worked 3 days,I was let go the nano-second that I was released from the doctors. I have no medical restrictions.Nothing reported on DAC or credit reports. The missing time dovetails with my unemployment.
So what do you guys and gals think ???

I think there is a good chance that when they check your references your x-company will tell them why you were let go. It's a tough situation. Also on many applications they will ask if you have ever filed workman's comp and there will definitely be a medical record of it. Personally I would be truthful if asked, there will be at least someone out there that will hire you. Good luck!

While I agree with the rest of your post, I disagree with this. A former employer can confirm dates of employment and whether or not you're eligible for rehire. If they reveal anything beyond that, they open the entire company up to a potential lawsuit. Now that's not to say that any given company won't reveal more, but any company with even a shred of legal smarts won't. Its just not worth the risk to them.

I'd say be honest. They probably will check, and if you leave it out they do hold it against you which results in no job. Good luck, hope it works out for you.

Your right, I'm a terrible liar, and at my age my memory sucks.
One lie begets another .... and another .... best to keep things above board.

    Thanks.

So see there! You answered your own question. And in my opinion (FWIW) you have the correct answer!

As long as you get the green light on your DOT physical, you'll probably have nothing to worry about. Just be honest when explaining the employment gap.

Be honest on the job application.
    Clean and simple.
Remember a medical problem can and will come back and haunt you. If you fill out insurance papers and in the section that asks for "pre existing conditions" this might be where the company says sorry but gives you some other excuse for not hiring you.

If you DON"T show this and when the insurance company does their background search and your name pops up and they say that you are not eligible for the insurance and the company fires you for falsifying your job application that is a killer from DAC hello!

Yes some advice bites big time but never leave out or not put information in a job application if asked for it. Just don't volunteer any if not asked for it either but if there is a line for it fill it in.
