Did Rand HQ ever answer about construction updates for the Mac?

This is a temporary issue. Rand is working on the CloudFront and the
backend servers to make the update a smoother flowing process.

The last update with the Maps was about 2.5 GB. This download while on the road caused a lot of issues with incomplete downloads with drivers disconnecting during the download, Internet connections dropping, weak Internet signals, etc, etc.

Most of the drivers that I have worked with did not get complete map
downloads and ended up with a difference of old\new map data. The TND did not like that.

Their is an option to get the update via an SD update card if you click on the link on the posted statement.

Or, you can E-Mail me with Name, Address (no PO boxes), phone, serial number off back of TND and a brief description of the issue -

    Does not work after update.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Well, as long as they're not abandoning the units. That's kinda what that notice sounded like.

I've been working local and am probably going back out on the road soon so I pulled the gps units off the shelf to update them. I hooked up the 465t and it wouldn't connect so I couldn't update it. I thought, Geez, at least I don't have this problem with the TND. Then I found out that I did. So far I've got a form letter response from Garmin that they got my email and an explanation from Rand. Rand wins this one.

I haven't called the number Rand gives in that notice, haven't had time. But the link forces IE to open, so that won't work. IE does not run on my machine for any reason.

Have they given any more consideration to the idea of using bittorrent or similar methods to spread the updates? As they may have realized, it's nearly impossible to push out multigig patches without a system for breaking it up into smaller, resumable chunks. There's just no way around that other than mailing out sd cards which will only annoy people.

Oh yeah. Another problem is that when the unit is not connected, the dock program can download updates for later installation. I have done this a couple times and never got round to hooking up the unit since I wasn't using it. Now Rand has not only disabled downloading updates, but disabled the update program entirely. So I have at least two, maybe three updates sitting on this machine that it won't even try to install.

Now if they made the dock program so that it would download the updates to disc, instead of straight onto the unit, and verify the whole update before it even tried to install it, that would eliminate most of the problem right there.

    Feature suggestion:
Regarding the "units" options, Metric & US Standard, there should also be an Auto option that will change units automatically when you cross the border.
    Just an idea ...

Thanks for the link info on non-IE machines.. we are looking at that.

Many ideas were tossed around as to the best method of download. Given that if you were at home on high-speed you should have not had any issues. The ones on dial up, disconnecting in the middle of an update, etc etc are the ones with issues.

If you would like the new map upgrade that was offered on the Dock then please contact Rand Support.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Ok, I've got some gripes. Here I waited for the massive update, got it installed, and when it isn't making my Tnd freeze up it doesn't help me any.
They changed rte 57 in Indiana so that it stops at rte 68 and makes you go right about a 1/2 mile then get on the new I-69 section there to be able to get on I-64. The new updated tnd still tries to take me down to the nonexistent entrance ramp from 57.
So then I tried it's explosive routing through Oklahoma city. You aren't allowed on I-40 on the elevated section in downtown with explosives and the tnd routes me right onto it.
It's just sad that after all the wait it still doesn't work right.

The update for the maps included the truck attributes not the main core mapping for roads.
I forwarded the info up to Rand to look at .

    Thanks,

On that update, will it update the unit from any version to present? Cause I had those updates that it downloaded while the unit wasn't connected and I can't see skipping them as a good thing.

my tnd 700 worked very well for a month every day. took the unit out of the cradle for the weekend, turned it on, will not do anything, will not turn on, the charging light lights up when plugged in.
