Again, thank you for the further clarification. The more I read, the more questions pop up.
For example...What is with the pre hire? They get your application, you have a pleasant chat on the phone, you sound like a relatively sane, semi literate fellow so... Congratulations your prehired? Is that the situation in the recruiting office? They prehire everyone before they make a single phone call to your references or the DMV?

When I had my trucks and authority there wasn't ifta but my understanding of it is that ifta distributes the money but the state to state taxes still vary. So they may be factoring that into the price to figure out where to buy. You'd have to ask them to be sure as I am curious too.
ROehl is big, the others are monsters.
I'm an early mornign person too. I'm out by 5 usually. I just don't do well with rotating shifts. I can drive days or nights, I just don't wan to do both and that's what usually happens with the hours of service. But it sounds like they don't schedual you as tight as I am used to running as I usually run out of my 70 hours in the begining of my 6th day. -
Road Dog, The only issue I have with Roehl is that you can't trip scan your load until it is done and signed. It sucks when hubby gets to a receiver well before noon and they screw around getting him unloaded and he misses the noon cut off,

On Roehls fuel program...which is called Opti-stop, is basicaly designed for newbe drivers that haven't learned how to plan out there trip as far as where to fuel. Twice a day it checks fuel prices around the US. Sometimes Roehl will pre-buy their fuel ( Gateway Truckstop E. St Louis, IL). It plots out your fuel stops based on average fuel mileage, price per gallon, pre-buy, or stoping at terminal. If (when)you are sent out of the shortest practical route for fuel, you are NOT paid the EXTRA miles. With each dispatch you are sent routing through opti-stop. Even if you have done the same point A to same point B before... you may be routed a different way ( out of your way and NOT paid for extrta miles ) because the price of fuel. Most likely you will fill up at a small fuel stop that may or may not have showers... and if they do they will be filthy. If you want to be a clean truck driver, if you work for Roehl buget $25.00 a week for showers. As an experienced driver, I found opti-stop a total waste of time and money. Well that my 2 cents worth...

Whispers, the noon cutoff on Fri.doesnt bother me.I usually turn in a couple of trips during the week, then turn in the rest on Sat.after I get home.being on the 7 on 7 off program that gives me a paycheck every week.

Rezynman,They never run me out of route to fuel up.Its just that sometimes it seems like a lot of messing around to stop and take on a few gal.then drive 50 mi.down the road and fill up.As far as their routing is concerned,if you follow their route you will come in very close to your pd.miles.As far as trip planning ,I have owned my own trucks, driven co.trucks pretty much did it all.I know very well how to plan a trip.I realize that sometime you are better off to run a few extra miles and stay on good roads, which I do very often.A lot of time they seem to try and keep you off of the toll rds.But if the toll rd.is the best route then thats the way I go.I have not been called on it yet.

Road Dog...
Maybe Roehl changed things when they went to pratical miles. It used to be a mess. I'm glad to hear its better but I'd still never work for Roehl again. I left back in May 2005. A good company for a newbie but an experienced driver seemed to get the shaft alot. I had one of the oldest trucks in the fleet at the time. It had a lot of problems...in the shop every week! I begged for a newer truck but no dice. All the while seeing student after student getting BRAND NEW trucks. I saw one kid leave Marshfield on Friday, Saw he again at P&G in Granite City,IL on Tuesday. As he was backing in, he took the right front fender and bumper off by hitting a cement divider. On Thursday he was at the Gary terminal getting another NEW truck. In less than 1 week after this kid was released from his trainer he was on his 2nd NEW truck. What gives!!! -
Rezynman,That dont sound like the same outfit I am driving for,(Roehl).I have a few problems with them, but they are still one of the better outfits to drive for. When I first started driving for them I was driving an older International, with about 300,000 mis.on it.But it was in excellent shape.I then was put into an 06 Freightshaker with around 33,000 mis.on it.Roehl keeps their equipment in very good condition.Yeah I wish they would go to condos with larger fuel tanks, but they do keep up with the maint.on what they have.I know they are trying to keep the weight of the tractors low so we can haul the heavier loads. If ya wanta see some really lousy equip.go hire on at Good Old Swift.Their maint.dept.sucks.
