Radio Noise...Help!

go to your local radio shack store or truckstop store and get an inline noise filter. this should cut down if not completely eliminate the noise.

its "usually" an alternator problem, like a bad/poor ground.

 

Ok this is going to sound stupid till you try it but i bet you drive a freightliner. I had the same problem on a freightliner i owned on 40 mtrs but the same thing will occur on diferrent bands its the front wheel bearings on the truck they run in oil and they create a magnetic field and when you hit the brakes it grounds the hubs and it goes away. the solution is to find some powder grafite like they put in locks. take the plug out of the front hub and put about 1/2 an ounce of graffite in each hub problem solved. Hope it helps. Oh and i went 2,000,000 miles with out ever haveing to replace my bearings so if any one gives you trouble it want hurt the bearings at all. in fact it will help lubricate them better since it is a lubricant in its self.

 

Very good info kd5drx !!! I have used the graphite myself & yes it does work ! The give away was when he said, "the noise went away when you hit the brakes" . like kd5 said the hub oil is not allowing the hubs to ground . Do you think it might be the "NEW" synthetic oils ??

That was a give-away??? How you guys figure this stuff out amazes me.

 

When he hit his brake , the shoes (w/ metallic pads) firmly grounded against the brake drums - thereby completing the ground circuit . This allowed the stored up electrons as static to escape to ground . Elementary my dear Watson !

 

kd5drx, I was told the same thing one time and you are right it will work and I never had a problem with the wheel bearings.

 

The ones i have seen go in line with the power and never have worked for me on this type of noise they are more for stero noise and ignition noise not external noise as he is haveing. This type noise is generated externaly and comeing in on the antenna not the power leads. and thanks every one for not thinking I am crazy but it has worked in the past for me and will work for the magnetic field type noise and it is sure cheaper than those filters.
