If I am mildly tired I will stopped walk around a bit, wakes me right up. Helps if its bitterly cold outside too. If I am moderately tired, I take a nap. Cause saying officer I was chewing on my candy I swear it was keeping me awake after you hit that car you didnt see won't work so well.

The best thing I have found for staying awake is to get plenty of sleep before you drive. Not trying to be an ###.

I used to be an outlaw trucker. I have drove 6500 miles in one week before as a single driver. I know some of you won't believe it but I did do it. My NET take home that week was around $2200. Believe me it wasn't worth it. You can average a lot more if you take it slow and steady over a longer time period.

If I need a small pick me up. I'll pull into a rest stop and take a hour nap. Not a full hour of hard sleep though. I set my alarm clock for 15 mins and then click snooze each time the alarm goes off. I do this about 4 times. My snooze is set to go off every 10 minutes. This gives me about an hour of sleep but I don't go into full sleep mode. When I get up I feel like I have slept for 5 or 6 hours. Try it sometime. It really works great. You will get into the habit of clicking the snooze button and won't even know your doing it after a while. When I sleep all night I put the alarm on the cabinet above my head. That way I have to get up to turn it off.

Weird what you can learn from being out on the road all this time.

It's not the sugar rush that does it. It's the juicy in your mouth. Get the sugar free ones if you can find them...

So let me get this straight, when you're tired, you divert your attention from driving to unwrapping a piece of candy in the dark? Great plan.

That's me, it seems like it takes me 3 times the length of the nap to recover from the nap...
