Last night I was pulling into the Pilot at Tumwater,WA on I-5 and as I turned into the back row looking for a parking spot I saw what looked to about be the only one left.
In my haste to set up for a back in I failed to check my left mirror in time as I finished my turn into the row, just as I glanced at the mirror the very back of my trailer clipped the fender of the first truck in the row.
I buggered up the fender, bumper, headlight lense and a little bit of the hood.
A split second sooner looking in the mirror and I'd have avoided it completely,I'm just sick about it.
Will this cost me my job?......I've only been solo for two weeks.
This is my first real mishap of any kind, been a little late a couple times finding places but have not been lost or stuck anywhere and have had no other issues.
I was going to stop at a rest stop but wanted to get a little closer to my delivery for an early morning live unload and at a place I haven't been to before so I pressed on a little farther to the Pilot which I now regret.
Hope I'm not in too much trouble,I'm really bummed out.
%&^*$##...... I screwed up!

Man! I hate that for you!
Did you notify your DM? I'm sure it will be considered a preventable accident.
I would ask your manager what policy they have for that.
I'm sure the driver you backed into was really PO'd...
Good luck and keep us posted. -
Thank You for your honesty.
I hope things end in your favor !!!orion3814 Thanks this. -

Depends on who you are driving for. The major carriers usually let you slide with a couple minor preventables. This doesn't sound like anything major. Did you take make sure to notify the other driver, your company, and take pictures? You will most likely be called to the main terminal to take a safety course. If you haven't made it past your 90 days they may or may not let you go. Great honest post though. Not too many drives like you out there. Especially admitting their mistakes without any excuses. I commend you for that. As for the accident, crap happens! It happens to the best of us. It is really tough at the end of the day when you are tired and there is no where to park and you don't have much time to shut down and get some rest. Hopefully this gives some perspective to the newbies as to what things can be like out there. Thanks for the good post! Good luck to you!
walstib and The Challenger Thank this. -
He was actually very cool about it,said he did the same thing when he first started.
I wasn't backing I was turning into the row, left turn and lost track of where my trailer off track was and clipped the front of a
a Knight truck.
Totally a stupid move on my part,a little inattention as I was tired.
I just didn't square out my turn enough. -
Thanks for your reply, yes I took pics and the other driver was in the truck when it happened.
We exchanged info and I called the company accident report number.
I haven't talked with my DM yet,he should be getting in about a 1/2 hr from now.
I'm driving for May.
