That's why I said IF they were wise they would take stock in what the old timers had to say. I have been in this industry all my life, my grandaddy was a driver back when most of these newbies weren't even a gleam in the eye. He started when he was 15 and just stopped driving 2 years ago(kicking and screaming the whole way) Even though I have been around it I still listen to what more experienced drivers have to say. It may not be what I want to hear but they know a heck of a lot more than I do!
Drive a big truck realy

What a joke... check your own spelling.... seriously is how it is spelled. Some people have had a hard life. Some for whatever reason did not get the education that some have had. I look at it this way. There are college educated people that have failed miserably at being an O/O. SP seems to have done quite well; with being not only a O/O, but one who owns multiple trucks. Just because he has not had the education that you think he should have in order to post valuable information. Does not mean that everyone follows your line of thinking.
You seem to be good at deciding who knows what by their writing skills. So; here is a little test. Do I find your above quote non-respectable by your spelling skills or the fact that you come off as knowing more than you actually know? Here is a hint. Your spelling is not the reason I don't respect your outlook on being presentable.
Glad to see you back SP! Don't worry about this guy. I would rather follow your post and pick up information than be all proper and sophisticated and not have a clue.

Well now, since you base your opinion of a person's knowledge, experience and situation on their writing style I'll do the same. Here's the opinion I've formed of you based upon your posts.
You've lost your tech job and you're desperate to find work. You've spent months searching for a job and can't get one. Now you're "looking into" the trucking industry because you've heard decent money can be made and you're sure that it'll be easy. After all, the people who drive trucks are simply one step above idiots in your eyes in your mind. You've decided to bless the trucking industry with your self even though you find the industry and those in it far beneath your own education, status and worth. You are worth so much more that to be surrounded by those less than your self. (Well you're worth so much more in your own eyes.)
You've joined an excellent trucking forum whose members vary from wives of drivers to those with decade upon decade of experience, and includes those like your self who don't have a clue. But you want to speak up and let everyone know just how important and more intelligent than everyone you are. So you chose to do that by insulting someone over their writing style and skill. Don't worry, you have been successful and you've impressed us. Didn't impress us well but you've certainly impressed us.
That's the opinion of you I formed based on your posts.
Good luck on your new career in trucking. Since you already know everything I'm sure you'll have smooth sailing, lots of miles and why I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't just make you the head of a company.
Or maybe you could be Obama's newest trucking czar, that'd be a good fit.teddy_bear6506, RCpullerdude, cobratori and 6 others Thank this. -
As always Nana you impress me with your insight and thoughtfulness you put into your post as well as a good lashing when needed. I love reading the posts from you and others! humble as always
Texas-Nana Thanks this. -
What some of these green horns don't realize is some of these guys have spent a lifetime out on the road. I have a cousin who has been an O/O for over 30 years. Was a company driver before that. He does not even know how to turn a PC on or even type. Does not mean that he does not have a good handle on the trucking industry. He knows a lot more about keeping his head above water than most who venture out here.
Another thing if one is so hung up on proper grammar. Look at SP's post and then look at mine. I have had a couple years of college. It is obvious that SP struggles sometimes, but does in no way make him any less knowledgeable about trucking. In fact I work for someone. SP has people work for him. That speaks great volume right there.teddy_bear6506 and bullhaulerswife Thank this. -
First of all that's a fast truck LOL, next I'm reminded of an old saying, there's those who listen and those who learn. I know before I even type this next story that some will say "that's not possible, DOT and this and that wouldn't let you do that, but I'm sure some of the other old hands like SP can relate to it, some of the best drivers I've known wouldn't know their name if they saw it written on a boxcar, because they could't read or write, but once they went somewhere they could find their way back blindfolded in the fog. I used to run into a bullhauling friend of mine from time to time and I would always ask him to stop somewhere but he would always decline,I was talking to another friend and telling him of this and he told of riding to Oklahoma with him and someone told them of a
DOT check ahead and he said look at my log book and see where it say's we're at, he told him and he said wrong one look under the bunk and see what that one says. Well come to find out his wife would pre-log his trip before he left, not legal but he did what he had to do to feed his family and I might say he was one of the best managers I've ever known. Many years ago me and a friend were going to see our CPA with our big ledger type checkbooks to check our profit and loss statement, this same old boy said "bookeeper my ### keep it right here on your hip (patting his wallet) when you reach for it and it ain't there you won't need no educated feller to tell you your broke. I"ve been doing this for forty years and love everyday of it, but if you think for a minute that all trucking companies won't lie to you occasionally your dead wrong. Trucking can be the most fun you can have with your clothes on but never be foolish enough to think it's perfect. -
I had to get in on this. First and foremost. You rip on SP's spelling when you have several errors in your own post? For the record brother man, SP is one of the more respected members on this board who has offered more wisdom in his posts than most of us will ever begin to apprecate him for, and things that would cost us alot of time, money, and frazzled nerves to have learned on the road.
One would say that you would even know that "Through" is the proper spelling among other things.
Secondly, What the hell does having a stroke or other brain damage happen to them, have anything to do with the confidence you can have in the knowledge of things they have done in the past.
I never claimed to be a nice person, some seem to think I am though, but not this time sir.
You know what you come off as? Not a newbie looking for advice, not even a person who desires to try to help, or learn.
You come off as a punk, who simply wants to find somthing to complain about, someone who needs to berate someone just to make themself feel better.
Why do I say this? Because I was you at one point in time, lock stock and barrel, anything I could find to make myself feel better, I would do, including what your doing now. And yeah, somtimes I catch myself still doing it. But most of that crap was left behind in grade school.
I know I got errors in this post, but im leaving them, because if you dont read the post because of them, fine. But someone will, and that someone will have read SP's posts, and that someone will be far better off than you in the long run.
Be thankful for the little things you have in your life:
A good education (Apparently to the point of being able to be hypocritical in demanding better spelling and grammar when you lack it)
That this board is even here to educate people like you (Who are too narrow minded to see all the wisdom they are offered) and me (Who forget that its a privlage to be here and not a right)
And that you live in a country where you get to say these things, be hypocritical and all you get in return is some people using the right they have to call you an idiot instead of people simply beating you for being one.
Yeah, I'm a little peeved. Because I got nothing but respect for SP, and a plethora of others here, who have gone above and beyond to educate noobs like myself, and those looking to move forward.
What SP didn't mention, was those truckers that if you mentioned that they speak wrong in person, would gladly give you some dental work with a tire thumper.
Concider that more advice you wont listen to as well.BlackNova, Injun, teddy_bear6506 and 2 others Thank this.
