They have a refresher course in Cedar Rapids through a community college. Company drivers are team only.
-
Give us an update as to how things are. I'm talking with them (CRST VAN) right now. Looking # Roehl and USA Truck also.
-
Wanna Drive i'd run far as i could from these guys. I did the school through Kirkwood which was great. But once your back at CRST and driving, you'll get run hard for your 28 days. Then you'll go home and try to find a co-driver, thats where the fun begins. Once your out you'll spend more time sitting than driving. Then when you go back home again your co driver will quit and you'l be back to square one. Most people use CRST to train and jump ship as fast as they can.
-
DP some of that may depend on who your dispatcher is. Unfortunately, there are bad ones in there. Also, most companies will run the crap out of you for the first month or two then slow down. I'm not exactly sure why, but it happens. I'm not saying it's right, I'm not getting high and mighty on the company, just trying to help as much as I can
-
So, trukngrl, do you know anything specific about them that I may need to know? I am kinda worried about finding a co driver since I don't know anyone who wants to run as a team.
-
Exactly what specific do you want to know? I have been here for a little over 4 years so I will help as much as I can. On the co-driver deal....when you get off of your trainers truck they will give you a list of people that are around your area. You can talk to them and get a feel for them before you decide to co-drive with them. Also, if you decide after getting on the truck with them that it is not working out you can talk with your dispatcher they will get you with another co-driver as soon as they can. hope that helps. anything else I can help with just ask I'll do what I can
Wanna drive Thanks this. -
My wife finished school a few weeks ago and we are heading to Cedar Rapids this weekend for orientation monday. I will be her trainer so codriver is taken care of. After her training what can we expect as far as mileage? wait time between loads?
From what Ive seen, finding a good codriver has been the major problem for drivers so other than that how r u doing? TY -
i'm headed to cedar rapids within the next week or two. very excited to work for CRST considering i almost went with CR England until i saw way too many complaints against them. i already have my CDL, but must go through the refresher course for two weeks before i start the 28 day training. how long before i get my first pay check? i'm trying to figure out how much cash to bring with me to hold me over until then. how about cash advances? how soon can i get one of those, if needed? i perfer current employees of CRST to answer, but if you KNOW FOR FACT, feel free to chime in. thanks in advance for your candid and HONEST answers. if you have negative comments concerning CRST, please, i don't want to hear it. it's going to be hard enough as it is with out the additional negativity! thanks again!

Hi all. Just put in my app with CRST today. Looking to get the CDL training & OTR experience to get my foot in the door in this industry. I've looked into several different companies and although I wasn't too keen on team driving to start with, I think I could deal with it for a while. I guess it's all in what you make of it. I was going to go to PAM but they recently started doing teams only for inexperienced drivers so I thought I'd at least look around and see what else is out there. Any advice/comments would be greatly appreciated.
Also, they say new-hire pay after training is 22 cpm. That's prior to the team split, correct? So I would only be making 11 cpm?Last edited: Nov 8, 2010
