The worst that ever happened to me I was east bound on I90 a few years ago just about 50 mi from home and we had an ice storm. They closed 90 due to some accidents and I didn't want to wait so knowing the little rds I took off. It was slow going and I came across an accident. A kid was just crawling out of an over turned Jeep and some thing was laying in the road, that some thing turned out to be his mother! I was the first one there and called 911 it took them over 45min to get there. It's hard trying to comfort a 10 yr old boy while his mother's laying in the road dieing. She had picked him up from a friends house and made sure he wore his seat belt but didn't bother with hers! They spun out (#### 4x4) and hit the ditch and rolled end over end and she went out the windshield.. it makes you feel so helpless. The wife and kids got some big hugs when I got home!
Wear your seat belts ALL the time
What's the worst experience you've had while on the road?

Dang, that does suck. You could of least pissed on them. No way would I spend 8 weeks in a motel either.
Alot of wow stories here. I've seen broken bones, dead bodies, had flu's, pnuemonia, a broken tooth is all I've dealt with.
I guess my worst time is I bought some el cheapo laundry detergent once and washed everything in my truck including the blankets. I never had an allergergic reaction before, but I woke up the next morning blistered. It took me awhile to figure out what was going on. And the dispatcher ran me hard for a week before I could do laundry again. I bought some clothes, but it was nightmare dealing with a full body rash for a week. I just couldn't get away from it.

Nature called and I answered. Good thing I had a plastic cooler handy. Enuff said.

well i may not remember the day/night/time/month/or year, but a "few "worst experiences" have happened to me over the years.
1) a drunk driver coming straight at me, as i'm going south bound on I-295 in NJ...........
2) an elderly gentleman, with his wife, and back seat passengers....
heading straight for me as i am north bound in CT on I-95, some how, he got on the highway the WRONG WAY......
3) food poisoning at least twice.
4) an SUV trying to pass my truck, both of us going north bound on I-91 in CT, i'm in the middle lane, he's in the far left. there is snow on the ground, that slushy stuff, he hits the paths the wheels of others plowed, he spins out, goes across my front bumper, spins out now in the right shoulder, shoots back across my front bumper, smacks the concrete wall in the left lane....
5) i had just bought a wonderful deli sandwich, at the deli at exit 5 in Maybrook, NY (just before you get to the T/A, i pull out, have the sandwich on my lap....i am doing about 10 to 15 mph, as there is a traffic light ahead......a deer stopped at the edge of the road, then darted out, i hit it, and my sandwich falls to the floor......5 second rules didn't apply.......
6) got caught in a blizzard on I-95 south in Maryland, by the Harve De Grace service plaza, had to stay there for 20 hours all in a day cab.......
7) got caught in 2 different tornadoes in 2 different states.
(eight-the number doesn't show, a smily face does) had my brakes catch fire in CO......i was a newbie then.....and i was with another newbie (co-driver)
9) i had 2 separate blow outs, from the same side, same position on my tractor......(my spare was put on, THAT blew)
10) and some dumb-arse doctor called my company to complain i was going TOO slow through a construction zone....!!
beyond that...........??
nutin' much every happened to me.......

After 33 Years OTR, I have been there done that and could tell stories that No one would beleive. But after all that, I get most dis heartened by what I see everyday out there now.
What in the heck had happened to this Biz ???
Where in the heck did they find these people at ???
What happened to us and the brotherhood that I used to be so proud of ???
And why the heck are these companies letting so called trainers that are clueless train someone that is even in worse shape, and then turn them loose with a 80,000 LB. mass of destruction and then when it all goes bad we all pay for it ???
I understand not everyone has the opportunity that most of us old hands had, I was running with my Dad on west coast turn arounds in the late 60's and learned how to drive at a very early age. But every since these schools has came out it has just gotten worse. Dont get me wrong...some things have gotten better for sure. But the brotherhood is just not there, as a matter of fact, I am more affraid of the trucks on the road then the cars, thats very sad. Hardly anyone talks on the radio anymore, and most that do, you wish they didnt... So my message to you young people, PLEASE....PLEASE...do your research and read up on how we used to stick together, and yes we did...I was through the strikes in the early 70's and been in many convoys, and know that we can stick together again, even if we loose...we always did, but they never took our brotherhood, and our pride away. And we would all give our last dollar to our brothers nad sisters, and would help out anyone in need. And we always talked to each other on the radio, in a proffessional manner I might add...
I would give anything to make one trip before I give it up, or worse...just to have a nice trip when I could see just a hint of how it used to be.
So all you young people, remember that and just try to have pride in what you do, and remember you aresetting an example for all of us, and to all you CB Rambo's, yes there are kids and family's that hear what you say, imagine they are yours ??? would you want them to hear that ? I didnt think so. Back in the day, you would have talked like that one time, and I promise you wouldnt again.
If you want change, then we should start with our own house.
We finally have a chance soon to unite again, lets not let it slip away.CarolinaCatJack, fr8monkey, Les2 and 1 other person Thank this. -

Thanks for the replies everyone! I really, really appreciate it!!!
For about two years I've been thinking about trucking. Sadly an entry level trucker working part-time can make more money that I did in the past 5-6 years working in the automotive service industry. I'm now signed up to take trucking classes on the 15th of this month.
More about that in the link below.

That made me laugh out loud, oh sry LOL....too funny -
I also had a drunk hit me at the tractor duals. He's lucky to be alive. The reason being the car lost the front right wheel, yes the entire wheel. He then bounced off of me went across the median and came to a stop on the other side of the freeway. This happened on I-25 a few miles into Colo. For those that don't know the area the median has a good sized dip in the median and the car didn't flip. Took me 15 -20 mintues to clear off parts of his car. The only damage to the truck was a gash in the tire where he hit me. Worse part was for him is his employer was the Military is really hard on drunk driving. It wouldn't surprise me that after the State of Colo got done with him the branch of service he was in had a field day with him.
