Best of luck to you CC.
While you still have insurance through the company i would be going to several doctors and getting all the help and info possible.

I'm sure you can overcome this and be back on the road!:biggrin_25525:

as far as your cpap turn it down by going into the clinical menu (easily found how to do on google for your machine)...... mine is supposed to be 15 and like you said couldn't sleep with it like that so i turned mine down to 10 and now works great for me for the last 2 years, but get that straightened out it will make a HUGE difference in the way you feel

bypass surgery can stop diabetes in its tracks, as well as aid in the weight loss department, this will also help in the sleep department once your weight comes down.

That's what I'm worried about :) My dad died from a heart attack at 46 and both my older brothers had quadruple bypass at 46. I've had two angiograms already and the last one in 2007 showed 40-50% blockage in my right artery. They won't touch you until you get to around 96%. I just had an EKG and the doctor said it was normal. I told him I would fail a nuclear stress test but you would think he owns the insurance company. He seems to think I don't need it.

I think Powder is referring to stomach bypass..

Not recommended with someone your weight and with diabetes. Plus it's a bit drastic. Just get your diet under control and get the meds right. Find a Diabetes Educator close to you. Do what they say. Find an Endocrinologist around you and tell him/her you want to get your diabetes under control WITHOUT insulin.

Yes if you get the weight down your breathing could improve. Keyword here is COULD. Sleep Apnea is cause by many things.

Whew! You were starting to scare me. :biggrin_2559:
My weight gain happened when my thyroid quit working. It wasn't so much trucking as my metabolism. I kept my weight down the first 9 years of trucking. I been on the meds 3 years now and the symptoms are finally starting to disappear. The doc said it would take a long time to get that part back to normal. I bet I lost 10 lbs since I been home.
I went grocery shopping today and read every label. It's hard to find stuff with no sugar and low carbs. I come home with some rabbit food. :)

Veggies are what food eats.. HAHHA

Look up the term "Glycemic Index" on google. If you don't know how learn to cook. Prepared foods are normally loaded up with sugar. This is especially true of "Low Fat" foods.

I have diabetes and still drive. When my blood reading became high my doctor added another diabetes pill to go along with my metformin and it is now normal with an A1C of 6.1. A reading of high sugar does not mean insulin immediately. If your personal doctor can't help you find one who can. The DOT doctor will just get you off the road...you need your personal doctor to work with you and use oral medication. There is a lot of oral meds out there that can be taken together to get your sugars down. Also lose weight or get out of the truck at the end of the day and walk for 30 minutes orrrrr walk in place in the truck for 30 minutes of the weather is bad.
