I have to admit I use it myself. However, if you do not know how to somewhat spell a word to begin with spell-checker will not help at all.

Spell checker doesn't work for words that are technically spelled right, but used incorrectly. "I attended driven school" Driven is spelled right, but it should have been "driving".

Like trukngrl said, I'd rather try and decipher the response than to not have a response at all

i can understand the o/p comments as poor spelling gets me too, but more so does the "texting type" being used at various times. i mean seriously, i do NOT text, so i really DO NOT know the abbreviations of some words, and i ain't about to sit here or anyplace else and try to decipher any of them.

i am lucky that as of right now, i use Fire Fox, and this has a built in spellchecker which by God, the number of RED underlined words come up when i am typing.

punctuation should be used, many of us do. capital letters SHOULD be used as well to start a sentence or use of a proper name, but for me, i prefer to use lower case letters.

but yes, many here have had the benefit of a high school (and college) education whiles others have not. i cannot berate them as it wouldn't first of all be nice or friendly, but i can understand the o/p's comments.

because i too am somewhat tired of, "r u sure u c go to th mall sat"....??

after all it ain't like i got a "5th grader" here with me......:biggrin_2559:

Oh, I agree I'm not perfect. I'm actually a terrible speller. But, can you easily read and understand what I wrote?

It sounds like a number a people write posts from their phones. I can understand where that would make it more difficult to write. However, my main point still standsd that if a post is difficult to read, it's less likely to be read or taken as seriously by me. Perhaps I'm in the minority. Perhaps I'm the only one. If so, fine. I'll live with it. But my hope is that perhaps, just maybe, someone will read this and consider improving the quality of his or her writting. Just a little more time with spelling, or maybe a period here and there to break up the sentences. I think if you can log into the internet and type, you can use the period and some capitalization. I don't think that's too much to ask.

I'm currently reading a wonderful series of posts by techiekate29 which are enjoyable in large part because they are well formated and well thought. Though I realize people in this profession come to it with a variety of backgrounds and education, the simple fact is I spend more time reading posts such as hers and put more weight in it's content than I do with posts from seasoned vetrans whose posts are difficult to read or are full of wild rants.

If no one changes or cares from what I'm saying, then fine. That is your choice. I'm just writing this in case someone does care. I'm not trying to be mean or pick on anyone in particular. I'm just expressing the reality of how I feel.

I agree with the original poster. When I read something that is poorly written, I instinctively start deducting I.Q. points.

You can have a high I.Q. and still be dumber than a rock. There's been many a post on here where people write poorly but make their points very well understood.

I believe it all comes down to that "respect" thing again. If you do not like the way a person spells or punctuates things then fine go to another post, but do not berate them for it when all they were doing was trying to help in the first place

The simplest way to rectify it shadow is by not reading the posts that irk you because of their spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Read the ones that make you happy and leave the others be. However, there is no reason to come on and call people out because they do not write a post the way you think they should write them. A lot of the seasoned drivers that you are talking about are highly respected on the forum and others do not take kindly to them being berated over something so silly when they are taking time out of their day to try to help you in the first place.

Absolutely. I think its more important that we have safe drivers on the roads, then ones who cant spell all that well.

Also shadow, and someone please correct me if I am wrong, TTR frowns against people berating others for spelling and grammatic errors. I believe it is in the rules of the forum section. Best of luck reading your posts
