I believe JBS has alredy installed a great number of EOBR's in a majority of their trucks the past several months before this was handed down from the FMCSA. This ruling was probably in reponse to HOS records audited from many months ago. Here is another article......

I think Doc is already running e logs, so he is still getting those productive numbers with e logs.

I forgot about this thread until now, but I've got some new thoughts.

Um Doc, what was it you were telling me about someone in your company that was known by Colo. State Patrol? Mike Hall I believe you said. Hmm, if this guy is all he's cracked up to be, this company should not be mandated EOBR in addition to e-logs.

Believe me I've talked to a lot of people about your company and it's divisions. Trust me your wrong. Bull Haulers, tankers, local, OTR, your all part of the same company JBS Carriers, Greeley, Colo.. There is no split with different operation locations. I've now been forced to deal with your Greeley plant for the last two weeks. Now I remember why I hated it so much when it was Monfort, etc. Crap, Crap, and more crap, equipment being abused, I work for an outside company that deals with your place and I despise it on a regular basis.
Want some specifics, five weeks ago one of my co-workers took a container up to be unloaded, he was told to drop it as they couldn't unload it. Great, 4 days later I had to bobtail up to get the empty. Somehow, in the span of 4 days, the service glad hand was sheared off the chassis and the 7 way was crushed. Pics were taken, the damage was noted, the owner of the chassis sent someone to do the repair. Took them 2 trips to get it repaired, the first trip, the repairman was refused entry to the premises to do the repair, then they found even more damage, the glad hand, 7-way, as well as the bulkhead of the chassis where this stuff is mounted was damaged as well. JBS was told they would be billed for it, guess what, JBS is now refusing to pay for the damage that happened on their yard, damage that they are liable for since the trailer was dropped on their property at their request and THEY SIGNED FOR.
As for your bull racks, this is another laughable issue. I have a friend who lives in Haxtun, Co., he works for one of the live stock haulers in the area. JBS drivers have been kicked out, one by law enforcement from three different feed lots in NE Colorado for wreckless driving, endangering live stock, and one driver who stunk worse then the live stock he was hauling (that's possible?)

As has been pointed out multiple times, e-logs doesn't mean that your running 100% legal. There are a lot of people who run e-logs who've figured out tricks to the system, and there are still drivers put OOS for HOS violations with e-logs. If this company is being mandated EOBR's in addition to e-logs, there is a problem.

JBS is like a few other companies, they'd rather waste a couple of hundred bucks to have a shop fix a trailer when they could give the driver a $20 bump on his check to fix it himself. I carry tools to do basic fixes on my truck on the roadside if needed, more then a few times my boss has given me a few extra on my check for doing a roadside fix to make a trailer useable instead o paying $500 for a service to come out and do it.

That's okay in 3 years EOBR's will be mandatory across the board for all trucks, I guarantee it. In the last year alone we have had crashes involving big trucks with at least 5 fatalities i.e. I44 in Oklahoma ten dead, Kentucky eleven dead, and a few weeks ago on I26 in North Carolina 6 dead. All of these just add fuel to the fire for safety advocacy groups to force the government to mandate such things. Plus the future in the trucking insurance industry is to push and demand carriers to go to EOBR's to cover the arse. So keep your head buried in the sand and don't believe that they inevitable isn't going to happen.
