Hi, my name is Ashley. I'm 24 years old. I'm single and have no kids. Right now, I'm looking for a way to pay for the schooling.
I got interested in trucking from my sister's ex boyfriend. He makes a comfortable paycheck (if he didn't have so many bills, lol). He gets to see the country (if only from his windshield). I don't care about home time. I could be home every two months and it wouldn't bother me. My family is the kind of people that you get along better with when you're far away from them.
I was a senior in college, studying mathematics, and decided I needed to gain some real life experiences. So far, I've been six months without even a dime to speak of. I've filled out applications out the ###, had two interviews, but no job. I'm so desperate for money that I applied for disability but that will take a couple months.
This school I want to go to is really good about getting their students into jobs. I just got to find some money.
I do have a question about trucking and that is: Do you have to take home time at home? I've got friends all over that I would like to visit on my days off if that's possible.
Wannabe!

First of all, welcome to the forum! Joining with us here is probably the smartest thing you could do to ease your way into trucking.
I drive for Swift but I DON'T recommend any carrier. However, Swift has a terminal in Edwardsville. Do the on-line application. Then, if you can, make an appointment to talk, live and in person, to a Swift recruiter there. Once you've done that, and if the Swift recruiter didn't turn you off completely, come back here for some advice if you think you should consider Swift.
There are more than just a couple of Swift drivers on this board that will help you along the way. -
Sounds like my wife's family

If you can do that there are definate advantages. However, there are also some starter companies that will cover the cost of your school, as long as you stay with them for certain lenghts of time. Oldnewbie mentioned Swift, and there are others as well. You will find alot of threads on here about "good" and "bad" companies. Much of it is your attitude and what you put into it.

There are quite a few people on here that can help you with that search.

Best of luck to you. Let us know how it goes.  -
If you don't have $$ for CDL school, maybe consider going with a carrier that has its own driver training school.
Welcome to the forum by the way! -
If you're able to take time off near a friends house it shouldn't be a problem. But make sure you pay attention to the truck while you're visiting. You don't have to take home time at your own home as long as you are on route.
