You will need to get hired buy one off the large over the road companies like J B Hunt, Schneider, Swift, Werner, Prime. They will all put you with a trainer for several weeks to even several months before you will be set out on your own. Their are many other companies that higher new bees and train them. Do lots of reserch on each of them you might work for. Not all companies are created equal. Do a search on this web site. Most all large companies have something on hear.

The school only gets you the basics to obtain the license. You won't be a real trucker until you are trained for that as well.

I'll be taking my skills and driving tests tomorrow (lucky me, I am 3 days into a cold and feel lousy). I'll probably go with Swift, as they seem the lesser evil among my choices.

That's actually kind of refreshing to hear. Don't get me wrong, I sympathize with your concern. I'd rather have someone on the road that knows they are a beginner than a driving school graduate that thinks they are a seasoned pro. I don't want to know how many accidents can be attributed to driver complacency, or sheer arrogance.

If your driving school was worth the money, you learned the value of safety and the groundwork is laid for the start at a successful driving career. Like melpromud said; one of the companies he listed, and there are many more, will give you training.

If you want allot more training got to prime: DON'T SIGN A LEASE

Now if you think 6 weeks is enought training go with Swift: DON'T SIGN A LEASE

Other then them I don't know of any other Big companies that hire new drivers from NH other then CR England and you don't wanna waste your time or your CDL on them....

Don't worry to much, once your in a truck 24-7 for a few weeks you'll be much more comfortable going out on your own.
