I am doing OK. Probably frustrating my trainer to no end though. We were in Oregon today in Klamath picking up a lumber load. I cant remember how far my trainer drove but we switched drivers and I was headed up the 395. It started to snow really bad and I was white knuckled and scared because I was just nervous. I made it up most of the way but I had to stop because I was just really nervous. I was going to get back in the driver seat after we stopped at a rest area and my trainer said he would drive the rest of the way. I feel really bad but he could tell I was sheet white. I know that if it was just me in the truck I would have just kept going but when its my life my load and my trainers life I don't want to be the one to kill us both. There were no mountain passes up the 395 but I couldn't see more than 1/4 Mile a head and it started to get dark. Were parked at the Pilot on 84 in Ontario. I think if I just sleep a bit and try to relax I know I can do this. I'm glad I'm with a trainer right now but will be happy when I really only have my life and my load to worry about and not another person.

That is the same fear I have. Taking a hill to fast and losing the ars end of my trailer. My trainer uses the jake on a lot of stuff that in school they say not to. He has been doing this for a long time though so he knows better when and when not to use it. I did take some notes today when he was driving asking him questions so I could better understand what it was he was doing.

Got a question for y'all. My hubby is wrapping up his training for Central and is due to upgrade in the next couple of days. He loves the job, and is a hard worker. He's had no trouble with his trainer. We've discussed L/O and haven't ruled it out in the future, but obviously for now he will be a company driver. He may end up running teams with his buddy he is in the middle of his training right now, but they have both agreed to run solo for a few before making that decision. Now, I have heard that Winter is slower than Spring/Summer. We recently had to move to a larger place right as he was finishing school. I had phoned Central myself before choosing a place to be sure of what rent bracket I needed to look at. The gal had told me he would pull an average of $700 a week, and so I planned accordingly. However, my hubby's trainer is urging him to go L/O and says that company drivers really only average about 4-5 hundred per week, which has us both a little freaked out. I am a stay at home mom who homeschools our children, so my just hopping off to work as well isn't an easy option. Not to mention the unemployment rates in California that would make that a difficult adventure, even I haven't been out of the workforce for 7 years. So, I am just curious from all of you drivers, what has been your experience as far as weekly pay? I hear a lot on here about miles being dependent on your DM, and your work ethic, etc. He hasn't been assigned a DM yet, but he is a hard worker. I am just looking for some experiences on weekly miles from someone other than just his trainer. Thanks!

At least as a company driver he will be able to average. As a lease driver you never know what you are going to make. I strongly recommend he drive for a couple of years before doing any leasing. Especially the situation that you are currently in. Also at Central once you lease you cannot go back to company driving. Plus he is married with kids. Owner operators never see home if they want to make money. As a company driver at least you will see him every 4-6 weeks. As far as freight goes right now is the busiest season. The day after xmas freight will come to a halt until around the middle of February. Usually January and February is when the experienced drivers plan for their time off. Now if he decides to run team he will make more money than if he was solo. It is very tough work though and the truck never stops. Central expects their teams to run 1000 a day. There are lots of other advantages and disadvantages to teaming. Maybe while your husband as at one of the terminals he can talk to some of the other teams.

What about the lives of other people on the road???
It's always better to park than to wish you had of parked. No load is worth risking my life

YIKES!!!!! I have one thing to say about teaming with someone he met in school. DON'T DO IT!!!!! Search my old posts, I tried this, then they ran us solo miles so it was like giving half my away to him.

2nd Average $700 SIGN ME UP!!!! Have them put that in writing that he will will make $700 a week, no less. That must be based on him running a steady diet of 3,000 miles a week. No less. What happens if his truck breaks down? He get's into an area where there is slow freight? His dispatcher leaves him sit all weekend without a load? Or he has to sit on a load that has way too much time on it and he can't drop? What happens if he comes home for 3-4 days? See what I am saying

Sure he will have weeks where he will get $700, but my experience and I was a company driver with Central over 2 years, and was making .38cpm. Was I would average about 2200-2600 miles a week. #.38cpm x 2200 is $836 before takes, and deductions.

I am assuming they start him at .29cpm x 3000miles that is $870 before taxes and deductions.

As a company driver, assuming your truck doesn't break down, you get stuck without a load, or you take time off he will probably be looking at more like $400-$500

but if any of the above happens, there will be weeks with no paycheck, as your deductions (say insurance) comes to more than his check, same with hometime. Remember he is not getting paid when the wheels aren't moving.
