John: Can SF police enforce noise pollution? I hate cars booming with sub-woofers rattling peoples' windows.

Richard: A CB radio with a linear amp works wonders. I key the mic when they go by and the "boom-boom" stops and a very loud whistle happens. Some almost crash when I do it.

I read this in another forum and I'm curious about what Richard was talking about. It sounds like the offensive driver was listening to the radio and the CB operator was broadcasting on that frequency to overload the offensive driver's system, but the CB frequency range is nowhere near the FM range. What is your take?

He was just running a baddly tuned radio with a huge amount of power and he bled over onto the cars stereo system.

Most people who play music loudly like that are listening to CDs/iPods. Is there any way the power from the linear amp could overload a closed system like that? I wouldn't imagine so.

Also, what are the chances of Richard blowing the offender's system also affecting normal radio listeners?

Yes, if they are using unshielded audio cables, poorly grounded stereo and or bad vehicle grounds. Yes a poorly tuned transmitter or excessive power can interfere or over power consumer electronics. A bad installation on either can contribute to this happening.

If either wire going to speakers were unshielded and close to 102" in length a poorly tuned CB could interfere.. However, should one of those deaf people crash and the law found out why.. The person interfering would need a lawyer..

Do not attempt what an idiot has accomplished. We don't need two idiots..

If your running enough power threw a Amp with a CB you can easily bleed over onto AM/FM car radios...But like said, most of the guys that have those booming sounding stereos are playing CD's. And if they are the kind that will rattle your windows in the house, 100 yards from the street, then most likely they will not have cheap unshielded cables.

These guys spend small fortunes in these set-ups, and your not going to be able to cut them off all that easily.

Best bet....Get a BB Gun, and sit behind some bushes at night, and pop their windshield when they drive by!:biggrin_2555:

Or get a Bose noise cancelling headset and turn off the offending noise.

The best thing for loud rap music is loud bagpipe music, they never know what hit them, and it ALWAYS cuts thru the noise!
