    Hello,

I’m exploring starting a hybrid expediting service and seeking and advice I can get. My plan is to use my existing SUV to transport small packages from local (St. Louis, MO) factories, machine shops, parts suppliers, etc. to locations within 600 miles from me in 12 hours or less. I prefer not to have a large vehicle which I hope will reduce fuel charges and result in lower maintenance charges – and pass that savings on to my customers.

I do not have any trucking/ courier experience so most of my questions are around what kind of licenses and permits I am going to need to put this in motion. Will I need some sort of log book for DOT or MC number? In addition to the regulatory questions, my bigger question is whether people think this idea will work. I would also be grateful if someone could tell me if there are already companies of this nature existing.

    I’m open to any suggestions…….

    Thanks,

    Shawn

I have a friend in MI. that does that for a company, they will call him up and he will take some parts up to WI.in a small pick up truck. But I think you would have to go door to door and find local companys that need small loads moved.

You won't need to log as you will be under 10,000lbs. as far as mc numbers. If you don't put signs on your SUV, DOT will never know what you're doing out there and you can run under the radar! Your best bet to get started is to just col call on businesses and solicit your services. That is how I did it with my company when I had offices in Atlanta area in the '90's.
