why is it so hard for recent grads to get local jobs such as fedex pepsi etc but most companies want one year over the road experience. is this the standard nation wide? why are co. trainers so unprofessional to student this one guy made a comment to me don't tear up my truck this is how i make my living it was a co. driver that said that not owner operator. and another just stops for fuel and 5 min to eat and no showers. the trucks i drove is a t2000 and a 2004 long nose pete 389. i really would like to go back out but my wife wants me to only do regional 7-10 days out at max. is this possible.

Those particular companies want atleast a years experience for insurance reasons yes. They pay a lower rate because they have experienced drivers working for them. Now that I see atleast some of what he was trying to say

Local jobs require more backing experience especially in tight places. Local jobs require knowing how to complete anywhere from 10 - maybe 30 stops in per day. You need experience driving in all conditions and know how to make good time especially in urban areas. Paperwork must be accurate all the time. You have to know your way around an area very very well in a truck and maneuvering skills. It's much more hectic and many more hazards to worry about.
