sorry if its been asked, but since the new update a while ago i have had an issue. my terminal is in gary, and its an illegal road i guess. before it would just be annoying, now it has that full display and resets my route, that is not good. leaving my terminal if i have programed in like 4 stops or something, or one, doesnt matter, it resets, then i have to be driving in that area trying to program it again.

all i can do is shut it off before going on that road,

also, does anyone elses seem a little slower since then? my mph lags a little now too and i use that for my speedometer.

Well my tnd finally gave me the navi and hermes errors and won't work any more. I updated the dock and got the splash screen to call in. I called in and they say I have to send in the unit and be without for 14 days or so. They also require me to send in the purchase receipt. Who carries their receipt around for a year, its with the tax stuff at home and I might not get there till xmas.
This is unacceptable and their policy needs changing. I had a working unit till the update and now I don't. Don't make me jump through hoops to get it working again.:biggrin_25510::biggrin_25513:

I'm considering buying one of these units, but I have a couple concerns:

How often must you update these units to keep them current? I have dial-up internet service at home and I found it impossible to update my Garmin when I purchased it.

Are some of the issues I've read here being ironed out in the updates? I realize this thread is for those needing help, I just hope that most people out there aren't having all these problems.

i got a newer unit since my exchange and so far its working great. other then some minor freezing in new jersey near the new england border and other areas its been great. one thing i dont like though is if its gonna route u on a route that is NOT designed for trucks it needs to tell u. i think it should change the color of the route from the pink/red color to like blue just so u know u may run into tight turns, small narrow roads etc.

one question- everytime i update my unit i get a new MCRA-BINGO.DB file. is this thing updated like everyday or something? what does it do? what does it hold? is mark on vacation?

    Buzzard Thanks this.

You really don't need to update very often at all. Actually you could probably go a year or two with out doing so quite easy

The RandMcNally software kinda reminds me of Windows 98 in some ways. Even though 98 was a very good product, it had minor quirks. They would fix those quirks, but the fix always added a new quirk LOL. With Rand its the kinda the same way. Each fix adds something new and unexpected. For me those quirks are only minor annoyances, and not actual problems.

Personally, I wish they would quit adding new features to the unit until the get the rest of it rock solid. Not to say its not a very very good product, it is. They just need to perfect what they already have before moving on to bigger and better stuff.

I still HATE the On Duty/Driving counter with a passion, and they keep adding more features to the stupid thing. I want that feature disabled permanently on my unit. I don't want it, I wont use it, but yet the #### thing screws with me 50 times a day. Oh, that and a pause button. I thought that was supposed to be added in a couple months ago. After multiple updates I still don't have that feature. Maybe I misunderstood, and its only included in the newest units being sold?

With all that said, the RandMcNally GPS is still my first second and third choice. It is the best thing since sliced bread.

It sounds like you really like the unit (except for the On Duty/Driving counter) and I thank you for your reply. It's almost like the RM TND units have become the "whipping boy" GPS for some posters while others swear by them and wouldn't trade for another brand.

I would think the On Duty/Driving counter would be an asset if you have to fill out a log book. Can you explain how it "screws with you"?

    Thanks,

    Buzz
