It will take longer then 3 weeks to loose that much weight. It took me three months to loose 40lbs. and I was never that big.

I lost 30 pounds in about 7 weeks. Doctor told me 5 pounds a week was a good target.

I've been told that losing anything more than 3lbs per week is rather unhealthy and generally people who lose weight very quickly, end up putting it all back on in the future.

I set myself up on a 1700 calorie / day diet back in May. On May 5th I was 225lbs and today I'm 192 with a goal weight of 180 by the end of the year. So I average about 5lbs per month. It's extremely tough at times to stay motivated when only shedding 5lbs per month, or just over 1lb per week, but it's the healthiest way and here I am, 6 months later, needing to buy smaller clothes.

Losing weight can be done with some self discipline, even on the road. Just don't expect miracles and don't go on a "diet" rather change your eating habits for life! It took you many years to become the weight you're at now, don't expect it all to come off in a healthy way over the course of a few months. It takes time to retrain yourself mentally and physically to have the correct eating habits.

I've not read all the posts in this thread, but I'd like to offer my encouragement! I admire you. It's a great idea to shed pounds, not just for a job, but for your life and overall health. I however, should practice what I preach!

Hmm. I'm not a professional by any means, but I have a little experience in what you're doing here. I used to weigh 450lbs and am down to about 300lbs. At 6'5 my BMI is around 35. Prime marked down 39 anyways and required me to do the sleep study. I know it's 35, because 1 week before I started orientation this last Tuesday I had a fitness analysis done professionally at my gym.

In any case, I went ahead and did the sleep study last night. Just got back this morning. No machine, and I'm good. Just because you're overweight doesn't mean they're going to stick you with that machine. There were folks in my orientation class this week that were 160lbs and had to do that study, so don't think that just because you lose weight will get you out of it. It's a variety of factors and has to do with your airway more than anything else.

Kudos to you. I know first hand the dedication it takes to make changes, and sacrifices to be the person you want to be in regards to your weight. Best wishes.
