To you O/O.s how much do you spend on fuel a month an average? If you run around 16,000 miles a month, what would you spend in fuel on average. If you were in canada and hauling around 80,000lbs??

Thanks a lot. We are now working for Bison. We are getting around 20,000 miles a month as a team. They pay $1.47cpm with the fuel sub. We have a $2500 truck payment, $650 insurance payment, and have allowed $13,000 for fuel a month, $5000 a month for maintenance. With a brand new truck I don't feel we should have any major probs for the first year? thoughts
any help is great. -
$5000.00 a month for Maintenance or did you mean $500.00 ???
-
No I mean $5000. Every one says save for maintenance, so we are. We want to be smart and carefull. We are brand new to being o/o's, so we don't really know and every one is different. Being a company driver, we just dropped off the truck and they fixed it, we never saw the bills. Things we will need on a regular basil are I think? Fuel, DEF, oil changes, air filters, tires, brakes etc. thoughts?
-
That's $60,000. a year. You could install a new engine every 6 months for that and not bother to change oil.
Use your hour meter and I would use about $2.00 an hour to go towards Maintenance. That will look after monthly bills and enough left over towards a major engine overhaul at around 1 million miles. That's about 50,000 hours and and $0.75 cents from the $2.00 will leave you $37,500. and even today a major overhaul is not quite that high. Let's say you put 500 hours a month on the engine, that leaves you $1.25 X 500 hrs. = $625.00 a month for regular maintenance and the other $375. is put away for major stuff.JimTheHut Thanks this. -
Our plan is to buy a new truck every 4 years. With how fast they change and all of the new DEF stuff. Maybe next time we will buy a heavy duty rig and truck in northern AB. I like a challenge and we enjoy the job a lot. Thanks a lot for your help and advice. Where do you truck mostly? May be we can buy you a coffe some day.. Our rig says (free to be you and me) on the back, if you ever see a really ugly short guy driving a 2011 Volvo 780 and it says that its me. ha ha
