1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

My update... I just finished my first week. I did some flatbed work and dry van while waiting for my twic. I of course got the worst truck in the fleet. It was and still is absolutely disgusting inside. The actual driver of the truck must be one of the biggest pigs on earth. I glad the truck broke after two days because they gave me another that was very clean. But i do have to say i think that i would like to do flat bed work i enjoyed it. Thanks for all your replies.

My Update if any one is interrested: I just finished my first week on containers. I am pulling out of Staten Is. NY I am not sure that I like it but I will give more time. I have been asured that it pays good. I hope it does because I would not do it for $800 a week. Going in and out of the port is insanity. I may have to re-think this. I just hope my second week is better than my first.

I recently had my first port experience a couple months ago and it will likely be my last. It's absolutely insane the bs you have to go through to go in there unload and the leave. Good Luck.

I haven't pulled out of the main port yards but I've seen how jammed up they can get. I was delivering to a place right next to the the main entrance for one yard. They had maybe ten lanes, looked like a toll plaza with the booth next to each lane. The trucks were all lined up waiting to get out and not a single one left in the entire time I was there. I don't think there was even anyone in any of the booths. Those drivers were pretty pissed off, laying on the air horns and such. I wouldn't put up with it.

I have pulled out of the yards where they keep the empty containers. Whole different ball game. 15-30 minutes and you're back on the road, no problem. Boss said they paid pretty well. I liked those runs, light and easy. Except for the big one in Detroit. Didn't like that place much.

UPDATE- I am back on flat bed, I will give up my job if I have to go back to containers. That is B.S. work and is only good for non english speaking driver and for driver who do not give a dang about being proffesional. I could go on and on about that crap work but it would be a waste of time. Told my boss that I would rather tarp a load every day than go back to that shyte.

Well that settles that for me too. I've been poking through ads and there's a bunch of container work. Been waiting for someone to say something about it before I called on any of them.
