I like the current regs.
I would like an additional driving hour, but that is the only gripe.
Keep the 34hr restart whatever happens. That would have really helped me back in 00-01.
Let me get the asbestos suit on...

Not to be a smartaxx but what do you care about the current regs if you are an ex driver according to your profile?
-
Cause I just might go back to the large cars.
I am not an Ex by choice...
Ken Thanks this. -
Hi. I like the regs as they are. They are workable with the 34 hour reset. yet I just read the addendum for the newest Fleet Owners mag, attached to the hard copy, and it covers the new CSA hours of service. The newest possible set for December 2010 is now 10 hours driving, after 70 hours the reset may be 48 hours. Or more, as printed in the addendum. Any body else have access to Fleet Owner? There are more than a couple of references from the present articles that hint at this new direction.

8/10 48 restart?
-
Well. That 34 wouldn't be necessary if we could get rid of the 70 hour rule.
My idea? Simple:
No more than 11 hours of driving in any 24-hour period.
No fewer than 10 hours off duty and/or in the sleeper in any 24-hour period.
The 10 hours may be split once any way the driver sees fit, however, any period of time off duty and/or in the sleeper that is less than 2 hours does not count toward the split.
Well, that's pretty much it.
70 hour rule: I'm not out here to goof off and waste time. So why do I have to either run extra short hours today, even though I feel great, because of something that happened last week? And why am I being forced to sit for a full day when I don't need it and I'm not at home or someplace I want to be? I don't feel more rested after this. All I feel is more aggravated.
Abolish the 70 hour rule, which will in effect make the 34 unnecessary and let us schedule ourselves to stay on our own natural 24-hour clocks.WINGWALKER9000, I am medicineman, heyns57 and 7 others Thank this. -
That would be nice, but the BFI's will abuse the hell out of it. Think about all those newbies out there, then think about that.
That scares the hell outta me.
-
I was going to say something snide, but I'll stow it for now.
I happen to work with one of those BFI's. Thus far, most of the loads I've hauled for them have had way more than enough time on them.
How would you "abuse" the rule? And how many employees of these outfits come on here and complain they are getting too many miles? That's not the story I usually hear. How about you? -
Nobody knows yet and CSA2010 isn't even related. However I work within the HOS with no problems.
-
Anybody working for your "BFI's" should have no trouble at all working within the HOS. Most of them complain of not enough miles. A goal of 2,500 miles per driver per week is not pushing very hard. That's almost 360 miles per day. I want to work harder than that. I don't call it a good week unless I break 3,000 miles. Punishing me today because I worked four hours last week has nothing at all to do with safety. It is an earning potential limiter. That's all.
I would like it simplified and loosened up a bit so I am able to maintain my body's natural clock.Last edited: Nov 16, 2010
