otr driver do have to drive on some of the streets you drive on. and do it often and with bigger trucks so dont think you are better driver. just remember we do it in all cities not just one. and it isnt trucking if you are doing local its called a del, driver

Never said I was a better driver, just didn't appreciate the comment "bumping food warehouse docks isn't trucking" Also since when did a 500 mile radius become "local"? Grant it its not coast to coast, but id say, regional at best.

I was once told by a TB (trucker buffoon) that "if you don't drive 600 a day, you ain't a trucker".

    Uh, OK Billy.

I would say local P/D drivers are more skilled then OTR drivers with equal experience. The local driver is going to run circles around any OTR driver, backwards.

Its nothing personal, its just that local guys hit 10-30 docks a day and deal with more "real"city traffic (driving through on the interstate isn't city driving) daily then most OTR drivers do weekly.

It takes more then a truck with a sleeper to be considered a trucker.

I might be driving a day cab right now but keep in mind that I have to pick up from or deliver to someone's actual house. Forget about a nice big dock to back into. And we do have big road tractors that have to get into the same little neighborhood streets.

and it takes a little more to put a truck with the sleeper in the same spot as the one without the sleeper. i never said they were not truckers. im just saying just because you do go into tight spots everyday does not make anybody a better driver than the other based on that i seen good drivers and bad drivers and it has nothing to do with otr or local driving. as far as skilled it comes with all driving.otr is not for everybody just like local driving is not for everybody
