Dealing with old man winter, a primer on winter driving.

That was a very informative post,and although Mn is my home base,I am not closed minded so far as learning new things....That being said,I am curious about some of the uses for dawn soap?? (Really,that is a new one for me)

 

Used dawn soap today. Was real handy trying to squeeze replacement lights into the hardened rubber mounts. I hate changing those lights.

just for us new drivers, why do you need 4x4's when chaining?

 

I hate, HATE, HATE winter driving. Hate cold and hate snow and ice. Thankfully this time will drive only till beginning of Jan and then travel to a hot tropical country till Feb. It will be summer there and I will not miss a bit of winter here.

 

Yes but you have to come back for March and April , both can be miserable.

 

If you are only putting chains on the outer tire, you can drive your inner tire up on the4x4 block, and that makes it easier to put the chain on the outer tire. Got it?

 

You should always have at least 1 4X4, even if you never have chains !!!!!

 

So this past week I had a good trip to Winnipeg. Blowing snow. Wet snow followed by deep cold temps, black ice, freezing rain for a time too.

It is always the first snowfall that is a problem, after that it's all good.

But what I don't understand is why if I am doing 80kmh on a hard pack ice covered highway, does some super trucker feel he needs to do 100 kmh. They pass me, and I back off and let them go. I can go that fast too, but I know I am going to stop a heck of alot quicker if I need to than they will.

If you are one of those guys, fill yer boots. I know I will always end up there safe and sound.

 

I asked a SUPER TRUCKER why he neded to pass me and he end up in the ditch 20 K further up HWY 17 a few years ago in those conditions , he said YOU WERE GOING TO SLOW
