You need good foot/hand coordination.
heyns57 and just lil me Thank this. -
Not hard at all it is just like driving a car
just lil me Thanks this. -
I'm a bit confused. What do you mean by "straight drive"?

It is multi-tasking. Those unable to learn shifting are those who drift out of their lane while looking at the speedometer and shift pattern.

Well. hmmmm Thank you. I've never heard the term "straight drive".
First off, it's not a stupid question at all. I personally think it shows concern and thought.
I would have to disagree with lil may (even though I think she's just wonderful and love to read her posts). I don't find driving a semi like driving a car. But we all have have our own views, so mine could be in the minority. It's not easy for all of us to learn but it is doable.
I've driven a standard transmission for over 40 years. It's what I learned on and it's what I've owned in several vehicles as well as owning automatics. But even with that, I found learning the number of gears and the double clutching to be a bit of a challenge.
What I'd suggest is if you have a friend, family member or co-worker who owns a standard, then ask them if they'd teach you to drive a standard. That way you might feel a little more comfortable.
Can you drive a semi? I think so. I worried, I was scared, I didn't think I could but I learned and while I'm certainly not perfect nor do I have decades of experience, I am a very good driver. So says my fleet manager.
I encourage you to follow your dream. I hope you do.
T-Njust lil me, Bobcat Tail, lil may and 1 other person Thank this. -
And thank you so much for clearing up what I meant with the transmission. I thought everyone would know what I meant by that. -
So needless to say I have just driven automatics all my driving life.
I feel Im a good driver in my vehicles. And it seems the bigger they are the better I am at driving them. lol..I can whip a big F-250 in a parking space better then a little dodge neon. *rolls eyes* I know a semi is a whole different ball game all together.
I am a bit worried, and a bit scared at just the thought of getting in a semi. But then again I was about my F-250 too before I drove it. Im sure I will do fine if I can just get over the fear of shifting.
Thank you for your encouragment. I can do this!!!!!!! -
