Yeah the rate question is really hard to answer.. Granted I have only been with Mercer for 6 months now but when it comes to Normal Loads there are very few I have hauled multiple times.. Pretty much a wide variety of if it fits sorta you might end up hauling it loads...
-
and who undercut them....
-
Mercer isn't like Boyd, Maverick, Hornaday..... They haul a lot of lumber, shingles, & steel.
The 1.5 years I've been there, I've only hauled 1 load of lumber. 6 or 7 loads of shingles. And maybe 10 loads of steel.
We do a lot of military, machinery, aviation, and pretty much everything that is high dollar & can't be trusted with by those starter companies! -
Thank you Redd. That is actually the answer I was looking for. I figured thats what you all did and that is my goal to do.

We do haul that other stuff though.... I just remembers slinky coils.... I hate slinky coils..... But when I get into Colorodo I haul them out to get out!!! I found myself surrounded by TMC & Western Express & the shipper & consignee....
But I took stuff in for a power plant that paid decent. -
Most of the stuff I hauled ended up going to a construction site. Usually a bear to get into and out of. Like this one a road that did not exist yet.

This road was built about 6 foot high and about the width of my truck. It was angled off at a slope on both sides and I did not want to slide off. I kept wondering how am I going to turn around? I sure ain't backing out of here some 5 + miles. This was the straight stretch. It had some curves in it. The road to get to this road was not intended for a truck at all. I had to go about 10 miles or so on a winding, curving, dueling banjo's type of road to get to the road that did not exist yet.
Here was the drop point for the bridge parts I was delivering.
They told me they wanted me on the other side. I told them your directions brought me on this side. It is not like I typed in a addy on a place that does not exist yet on my GPS and got here on my own.
They still wanted me to back track and get to the other side. I told them you better start building the bridge on this side because I am going to start slinging off bridge parts on this side if you don't unload me.
This was a 2 stop drop and this was the last site. I wanted this nightmare load off of my truck.
Once they unloaded me I ended up backing off into a dry creek bed to turn around. Good thing it had not rained in awhile.

Yeah; the freight might be high, but you forgot to discuss the rate of that freight, the long bounce to get it, then the camping out going through the whole ordeal again.....
At maverick I did not get %, but at least got paid for every mile loaded or empty. Those tin can coils are high dollar. Those can easily be over a 200 grand a piece. A couple of them strapped on equals more money than some of that mercer freight I dragged around.

had a few of those aluminum coild on a few weeks ago that went to make cans for bud products. Came out of Oswego NY. Paid pretty good to. I am a TMC driver and the rates that they haul for are higher then I was expecting them to be since they are such a large company.

If the load is heavy its cheap...also if its military good chances its cheap....REDD you will never guess what we did.......
