I know u said KW was close and worked good for u,but if your not in a rush why not take a step back and try to get a line on a small shop from some of the local guys in your area.Alot of the small shops are family owned and take pride in there work and really thank u for your business and hope they have earned your trust so you will return. They will not try to make a killin off you on one repair. They want to count on your return business years. If your working to get it on the road, now would be the best time to find that small dependable shop, even if it's a little out of the way.
More work on the W900...at the dealer again

I don't know how you do it JD. I would have broken down by now.
-
Just as LBZ said:
your project is interesting but nothing to me, and it still pizz's me off.
I believe i have posted this before, but the local KW dealer in my area has a parts department with a wicked attitude. I buy only what i have to from them. I would buy everything from them if they were decent to deal with.
As these guys have said, find a small independent guy that has some pride. The outfit i work for (they only have two trucks of their own) has a guy that comes to their shop and does alot of their work. He seems to do a great job and they are happy with him. -
Just wondering if you got any other quotes? Babcock? National spring? maybe even Spellman? Spellman is really trailers, but they know everybody in the Milwaukee area and have always been great with help even if they don't get the work.

Truck Country came in at $1400 with alignment but no sleeves.
Wingfoot came in at $1250 with alignment but no sleeves.
So, right now with all things being equal, KW is the cheapest....
Last June, they did a DOT and told me my 5th wheel was shot along with my rear input shaft play (among many other things). I fixed what ELSE was wrong and left these 3 items. Then I took it to 2 other places for a comparison DOT. Only KW reported the bad 5th wheel and rear input shaft play issue. I was curious, so I actually spoke to the techs that did the inspection to see and get a feel for what they did. They both told me the only thing wrong was my Kingpins.
That made sense, since the 5th wheel is 2.5 yrs old and for the last year, this truck essentially sat on a farm and was not ran.
So I challenged KW to reinspect the truck since its still sitting on their lot and let me know what they find THIS time. I have no intention of replacing my 5th wheel. I will know more Monday evening... -
JD do yourself a favor and get your truck back from KW find a family own shop and don't ever look back, you might have to try a few until you find the right one, those people at KW do not have any respect for you. You know why? because you keep coming back for more of what they know is a lousy and expensive bad service.
Man where I live there is no good truck shop, I have to drive to Miami 3 hours every time I need something done on my trucks, when I do I go past freightliner, International, Volvo, Mack, and a bunch of independent shops, but I will not get caught dead on one of the stealers, like most people call them, they are nothing more than a bunch of incompetent arrogants that think you owe them something after they put their hands on your pocket, the last time they did that to me you know what they found? a hole on my front pocket with out underwear. I'm sorry but I'm as mad as everybody else about your truck and the stealer.
I read stories here about a dealer replacing three sets of injectors on a cat engine, you know the definition of insanity? well it worked for them because Cat paid for one set while the owner paid for the other 12 injectors, is that crazy or what?
Take your truck and make sure you tell the manager how mad you are about the crappy and expensive service that you got and that you will tell anybody that comes your way how they work.
I wish the next time I read a new post from you here will be something positive from a different place.
Man I'm steaming and is not even my money or my truck.Hanadarko Thanks this. -
Yeah JD...
I agree with finding an independent. I've even had luck with service trucks! We have am abundance of service trucks around here. So it is easy to find one here that is starving & willing to forget the "We'll come to you" fee.
Take a look around you.

I sent a few emails/calls last Friday. I think the last one ran the point home. Maybe.
The problem I am dealing with is that the parts girl has always shown me respect and given me the best discount she could and the particular service writer I get along with very well...Usually I argue with most service writers since all they appear to be simply glorified coffee drinkers. I worked at a Ford/Linc dealer for 2yrs so I know all about that..
In this case, the particular service writer used to be a tech. I value that a great deal. The problem seems to be his crew.... I dont like finding clamps missing or un-tightened and my rig returned totally filthy. I have expressed this many times.
First shift seems to have decent techs but the service writers laugh at me when I walk out after dropping off the rig. At least that's what it feels like to me....They were supposed to return my call Friday and didnt.
Friday night, my service writer did call me and we spoke a bit. I told him I had just about had enough crap from this place and that I was debating taking my business elsewhere...a few hrs later I received a decent email.
Monday they are supposed to fix the eff-ups they did last week and then give her a DOT inspection. Based on that news, I will make my decision as to stick it out or leave. All I got left are my kingpins..... -
just make sure they actually measure the kingpin play and not just eyeball it
it may look like a lot but still be within specs -
Each shop I took it to, all told me about the same play.
0.015 Driver side
0.028 Pass side
..so I presume it was measured.....
