I'm gonna guess 2 things: the 12V only thing sounds like Heartland. The runs 3 battery person sounds like Knight! I could be way wrong though.
I haven't had any luck with the 12V heated blankets. Silly me had to get jump started twice because of a bad battery in my Pete 387 over at Werner that the mechanics refused to replace that kept draining current from the other 3 batteries at a fast pace. Idling was out the question: I was too scared back then of getting fired since I just started. So, if a person needs to idle the truck for the blanket, then why not go ahead and turn the heater on since the truck will be running...a silly invention for vehicle applications I think, but perfect for the home.
I've had the best luck with those -20°F sleeping bags that others have mentioned. I never wanted to step into my freezing clothes from out of the sleeping bag whenever I had to wake up!

Thanks Jim... I think everyone is getting me wrong its not about life threatening its about being comfortable... And I know how the winters are up north because I'm a Yankee... Just understand this... I don't think my husband should be uncomfortable while he is trying to support his family... When I'm sitting in my king size bed all alone snuggling with my pillows and warm blanket, I can't help but think if my husband is just as comfortable as I am... No it's not freezing but it is cold and I know that shivering doesn't make for a good nights sleep...
He does go out of the SouthEast, he was just in Indiana for those lovely storms that they just received... So I think he needs to be prepared for colder weather then the SouthEast...
And I know that it is no fun to jump out of a nice warm blanket and into a freezing room... And If your snuggled up in a sleeping bad what do you do with your face thats not in the blanket... I know that I can't sleep with a blanket over my head I need air... -

Buy an emergency blanket ( the foil kind) in the camping section at wally's. Like 2 bucks. Put it under the matress. Makes a big difference. I also have my dog with me. She runs 60 lbs. Blew my radiator in ny in feb. 8 degrees outside. We managed.

From the noise at TS's, I thought everyone idled their trucks, I know I do...
