I'm getting ready to get on TTC-Knoxville's waiting list myself. How long did you have to wait on their list in order to get called to start? I was originally going to go SMTI, but 3400 (4400-1000VA discount) is still a lot of money. TTC's is like 1400 and is the cheapest I've seen, and the classes are every bit as long.

I think the one thing SMTI has going for it, is that they have all those trucking companies come out there recruiting new drivers...so chances of getting pre hired before you've even graduated are good. Lot of flatbed companies come out there apparently.

i went to TTC nashville 8 years ago and was well worth the money. yes it's long (7 hr's a day 5 days a week for 3 months when i went) but the up side was that i could drive well as my trainer.

it was like $1000 then and much better than the $5500 for the 3 week cdl mill in lebanon.

I got on the waiting list in early July and the called me up for the class in September. I opted for the October class instead. Tuition was cheap. 667 was paid for by the lottery (which apparently, almost everyone gets) so I only had to pay 470 out of pocket for tuition plus about 150 in out of school costs (drug test, dot physical, road atlas, 2 log books, learner permit fees, and actual CDL fees). It's a 7 week 216 hour course with quite a bit of that either backing in the back lot with the old trucks (88 Freightliner with a 45 and 96 Pete 377 with a 48) or on the road with 07 International Prostars with 53's. The trucks are 10 speeds (except the Freightliner which is a 9 but you don't really shift its for backing only) and they put a lot of emphasis on smooth shifting and double clutching. Hope this info helps some and good luck. I've heard tuitions raised some since the start of the new year though.

Learned a lot. I'd highly recommend it.
