Inoperative light = severity rating 6

Tire with a nail in it = severity rating 8

    Tailgating = severity rating 5

So they think that a guy who picks up a nail in his tire on a run, is more of a danger to society than the axxhat who tailgates grandma's minivan loaded with kids.

How in the world do you expect them to put you out of a job if the easy/most common ones are less points?

    Here's what I like:
pickup cuts me off,I move left.
"restricted lane, driver. here's your ticket." true story.
how long until we 'safe' ourselves out of a job?

To play devil's advocate, why didn't you lift off the gas and let him go. Or was he forcing you over? How far did you ride in the restricted lane? Did you get back as soon as you could? or did you stay out there to pass the guy that cut you off?

I know you are just one of several hundred highway officers, but this situation has made me wonder..

If I have to hit a restricted lane to avoid an accident (getting off the accelerator just wasn't enough) and I get back where I belong as quickly and safely as possible can I be subject to a ticket?

Because he was about to miss his interchange and was slowing down, so the safest thing for me to do was to move left IMO. And, guess what? As operator of my truck, that's my call AND it's my job to make those calls. I didn't move back over the second he was gone, but I didn't pass him nor did I pass anybody. Easy to play devils advocate when you weren't there.

What really gets me about the situation is the cop asked me for $120 before he even had a ticket written, looked at my truck or my paperwork, or before he really did anything. Maybe that's SOP, but seems to me he could have just taken it. I guess in Illinois you don't even have to bribe the cops, they just come out and ask you for it.

I get a ticket for being in the left lane(harmless), and I get a ticket, while the guy that put me there(unsafe) drives away. Maybe you guys should get tickets for sucking at your jobs.

I explained the situation to the trooper, he said it didn't matter.

Before anyone asks, I was calm. I mentioned it, he didn't care, whatever I'll let the lawyer deal with it.

We had a guy head right for hubby's passenger steer tire, after looking up and looking me in the eye. (suicide by truck???) He was literally leaning over the steering wheel, you know, like you see in the cartoons, just before they are about to make that sudden move? This was in KC, and we all know that big trucks aren't allowed in the far left lane in KC. I alerted hubby just in time, he swerved over to the far left lane, let off the accelerator as this little booger barreled across two lanes. Had hubby maintained his speed, and stayed in that lane, that guy would not be alive today. I just thank god that there weren't any officers there to write hubby a ticket for being in the left lane.

What I don't understand, is they build these buy passes around these bigger cities, but restrict the trucks from being in the far left lane. If your a truck, and your only passing through, you want to stay away from those getting on and off the freeways, so why not let them use the far left lane?

A burned out marker light will get you 6 severity points

Defective/out of adjustment brakes will only get you 4 severity points

Were they high on drugs when they wrote this garbage?

So I could be driving my tractor and lowboy and have picked up a small nail on a construction site as I was pulling out and have a marker light bulb burn out and I would accrue 12 severity points

And Billy Big Rigger with out of adjustment brakes could be 10 feet off Grandma's back bumper while her minivan has the brownie troop in it and he would only accrue 9 severity points.

If ever there was a reason to disrespect authority, this CSA point system is it. I think all government employees need to be subject to drug testing

One thing you have to remember though.
The points do not cross basics, and each basic is weighted differently. So you may have 6 points for a nail in a tire, but since it really is not a major safety thing it does not weigh as heavy in the actual calculation of a safety rating.
If it was just point for point don't you think that drunk driving would be higher than 10 points?
10 is the max for any basic. So the 6 points is middle of the road for that basic.
Now do I agree that in the vehicle maintenance category a nail is worth 6 points? No I do not.

    Scarecrow03 and dieselbear Thank this.
