I got my CDL, with tanker endorsement, and start work soon hauling water for an oilfield company.
I didn't expect to find a tanker job as a newbie, but is what I wanted to drive from the beginning. I feel I got lucky that someone is going to let me have a chance.
it is a very small local company, but it is a place to start. a few years here, then I'll get my hazmat and work my way up to something regional or possibly national.
I'm very excited. I finally passed my CDL, and got a job!
I passed! got my cdl and ready to go to work.

Welcome aboard, and the best of luck to you.

congrats to you on both the new license and job. you may find that a "niche market" such as hauling water may be in more demand than OTR work would be. heck, you could become part owner, or even take over the business. learn as much as you can for the time you are there.
best of luck to you. -
I agree. There's a lot less pressure since those kind of jobs are paid by the hour. And there's a lot more stuff you can put into a tank and still stay in the oilpatch, like produced water, sweet and sour oil and condy. Stick around. You might grow to love it.

Congrats msfern! I live in the middle of a lot of oil and gas development, and that's one of the jobs I'll consider, if it's available to me! Carbon dioxide production is already a big business down here, and now it looks like we're sitting on top of a huge basin of shale gas. There's been a some of exploratory drilling; and the permitting seems to be ramping up. I'm hoping to graduate with my CDL next spring, and just maybe I'll hit a sweet spot!
