I've been talking with Roehl for the past week. I've applied and think I'll pursue a job with them sometime shortly after the new year. I, too, have my CDL but my experience is limited and more than 5 years old. I was told I'd have to go through a school again. Conveniently enough, Roehl has a driving school!
It seems most companies want you to either be a fresh CDL school graduate, or have 6 months to 1 year worth of recent, (last 1 or 2 years) verifiable tractor trailer experience. -
I too have been talking to Roehl this week. Same here , I might wait till Jan. I'm not sure yet exactly what I want to do. I would be training for flatbed if I do.
-
I also have my CDL but not from accredited school and have no experience. I will be starting at Roehls RDTC next Monday. Be happy to keep all you guys informed on how things are going at the school.

I worked for Roehl last year for 6 months then went local, now I'm thinking of going back over the road because I enjoy Over the road driving, been doing LTL for a year now I hate it. So after the holiday I mite go back to Roehl they were good to me I had no problems in my 6 months there. Was stock in Utah just before christmas last year, Roehl told me to park the Truck at a customers place took a taxi to the Airport, Roehl paid first class to get me home to Ohio for Christmas. That's the biggest reason If had to pick another OTR to work for it'll be Roehl.

Keep us posted on your adventures at Roehl. I worked for them as a company driver in 2002 tru 2003, as a fresh out of driving school student. Like others, I have been in/out of the trucking gig over the years. At the time, their new driver training program consisted of going out with a trainer for 2 weeks, then going out with another student for 2 weeks, then I received my own truck. I understand they use a slightly different program now. They are a honest company and I could tell my DM was looking out for me. After I "proved" my reliability as a driver, most of my loads were "pre-planed and/or drop-n-hook". I was almost always home on time, every time. However one has to remember trucking is trucking, don't expect to get back home on an exact date, and a good attitude will place you ahead of everyone else. I was in the national fleet staying out 10 to 12 days with 3 days off at home. I think it helped that the Roehl drop yard in Kansas City was only 2 miles from my house. When I return to trucking, I will go back to Roehl Transport.

You picked a good company to return to driving with. They have a good driver finishing program. After going through their program, I drove for them from 2006 to 2008. Only reason why I left is I had to care for my elderly father that took me completely off the road. I had planned on going into the lease program back then. I am now an O/O and after going through several smaller company over the last 2 years and dealing with various "things" I am returning to Roehl. Safe and stable company. Well managed in the grand scheme of things. I've been through a few companies that I wonder just how they manage to function and exist. If you can learn to abide by the "Roehl" way of driving and ride the over the bumps that just seem to be a part of trucking you should be able to make a decent living with them.

just a quickie,
Roehl isa great company to work for i mean they have there faults like EVERYONE but all in all if your willing to work hard and do what your payed to do its good did my 2 yrs with them driving covered wagons and left to work local.
GOOD COMPANY THO>> -
I've Been Hired by Roehl and start on the dec. 6th. I'm looking forward to driving for them i have heard many good things about them and i think it will be a big change form when i was a trainer with Werner Ent. I'm just wondering how is their fladbed division?

I got my CDL in 2008 but didn't get with a company due to the recession. I went to Roadmaster and got a pre-hire from Roehl. I got a few others so I have been looking at them to see where I want to go.
I'm choosing Roehl as they have a lot to say about safety on their web page. I'm very interested in fleet safety as I have a degree in safety and would eventually like to pursue that area. In the meantime, I need the drive time to know what I'm talking about.
I do enjoy driving, otherwise, why bother spending a lot of $$$ to get a CDL. I know it isn't cheap but neither is getting a college degree. I know I'm doing this a little late in my career (will soon be 57) but I feel that I have a lot to offer that I'm not going to see where I'm at.
Right now, I'm planning on starting with Roehl in January. I will most likely post my "travels" on Facebook. The forum has a lot of good stuff but with so many threads, it is hard to keep up with one person.
