I have seen a lot of Detroit's go way over a million to but none of this new stuff will but that is my opinion. I have a Friend with an Accert C-15 and has 750K and needing overhauled, I will be getting rid of mine before that time comes. It is a shame that have went backwards on technology when it comes to diesel engines.

pre EGR 60 series are strong motors. Just drove a C-15 Accert with 850 on it and ran strong. Did not have the power it use to I would imagine but it still did good.

Mine don't have the power the 6NZ do. I think my o' 350 Cummins could beat my Accert up the mountain.
I bought a 89' Kenworth T600 with a 350 Cummins and a 9spd in 1994, in the two years I owned it the only thing I did was replace an alternator and a set of batteries. I would be a rich man if I would of Kept that truck. It is cheaper to overhaul to. lol -
Before you buy you can pull the idle % info off the ecm as well as the fuel economy info and such...
I recently had my 3406E redone... not because it wouldn't go more miles (1,000,000+) but I used crap anti-freeze and it allowed a liner to perforate... -

you can find plenty of trucks that have 5-600K on them for under 30 grand. It will most likely be an international or a freightliner but hey if it runs good and makes you the money to buy that nicer truck you want in a year then you cant complain

THis is one of those post's where after reading all the answers, you'll think you knew MORE before you asked the question.
I talked to a driver just last week who bought 2 new trucks years ago they both came off the assembly line one after the other. both identical except for the paint. one has been trouble free for the most part the last 5 years. the other in the shops more times than he can remember.you can take great care of a truck & stll have problems. I have always changed my oil at 10,000 always dino oil. I have went over 1.3 mil miles & then had inframe just because. my internal parts during inframe looked great for the miles. I do attribute that to my maintenance on truck, & some luck too. people all the time tell me I am wasting money changing my oil so soon.I just cannot get out of the habit. looking at my oil at 10,000 makes me want to change it sooner.

Nothing wrong with living in your comfort level for oil change intervals. I got 1.4 million on an N-14 doing 30,000 mile oil changes using Kendall oil and Baldwin filters. Still ran good when I got out of it.
There are so many factors that go into deciding an oil change interval... what type of oil, conditions that the engine is operated in, driving style, etc. I currently am doing 25K mile changes on my ISX, and the oil samples show the oil will go longer. May gradually stretch it out, but probably will not go beyond 30,000. That is my comfort level. I have no desire to set any records for how long I can go without an oil change.
But many want to stay with 10,000 to 15,000 mile oil changes. I have no problem with that. Can't say that someone is just throwing their money away. I wouldn't do it, but that is just me. -
Wow! What a open ended question. The price can be in the teen's all the way up to $25K or more depending on what components you use and how well you want to rebuild the engine. Going to higher quality parts such as ceramic coated pistons, balanced rods, polished intake/exhaust manifolds, etc will jack the price up over a standard rebuild. But, this is one area where you get what you pay for. Go cheap and it will show. Spend a little more and it will probably pay for itself.
And to really confuse the issue, it all depends on whether the engine is a pre-emissions version or not. Emissions equipped engines will cost more to rebuild generally. I looked at a list of Recon engines at Cummins recently and the N-14's and pre-egr ISX versions were going for ball park $13K with your old engine for exchange. The EGR versions were about $3-4000 more.
