You can buy a Canon Scanner, that uses only USB power, Plug it right into the USB port on your PC, and Scan, and save to documents or Flash Drive. Then you will always have a copy. Hope the Idea helps.Strider Thanks this.

One of the things I've been preaching for a while here in TTR land!
Once you get to where you do it the same way every time you won't make this kind of mistake!
Here is how I did it for the last 10 years after I put a scanner in the truck:
As soon as I got in the truck with a BOL it goes into my logbook holder.
Reason: When stopped by DOT the log is there and so is the BOL which he's going to ask for. DO NOT: Fold it and put it in a pocket. DO NOT lay it on the dash, floor bunk or sunvisor! PUT IT IN THE LOGBOOK FOLDER! Anywhere else and it can make it out the door or window and you'll never see it again! In the pocket you can pull something else out of it and the BOL is on the ground as you walk away.
After fueling: If you have to write it down on a trip sheet DO IT as soon as you get in the truck unless you just had to go eat, sit on the toilet or hit on the worker on the desk and took too much time then as soon as you hit the seat write it down and put it in either the log book folder with the rest of the accumlating paperwork of this trip or in another folder or manilla folder in a safe place and put up with the driver thats been waiting on you blowing his horn at you. You can pull around and let him off the island and then stop and fill oiut your paper work! One reason why fuel islands are not parking spots! Get fuel and go park!
Scale ticket: Same thing. Get in the seat, write it in the trip sheet and then put it in the safe place.
Now, that night, as you're doing the end of the day paper work turn on the scanner and laptop and get to work! Scan EVERY PIECE of paper worth MONEY! That's fuel receipts, scale tickets, repair bills, light bulbs, pad locks, lumper and finally that SIGNED BOL! If you so need to scan the BOL the first night in case you do throw it away! Then put it in the trip pak envelope or the one you use for holding until you get in to scan it on Transflow or whatever.
I never went to a trash can and just dumped my trash can! I poured it out to be certain there was nothing important being thrown out and I NEVER pulled anything out of my pockets and put it into a trashcan unless I looked at it! When you hit that 50 mark you do start to do silly things like put your keys in the refrigerator and throw things in a trashcan that is worth money!
From what I understand Trip pak and Transflow might be setting it up where you can scan and send from the truck with your equipment on the internet. That would make it much easier!
OR ask that company of yours if they have the smarts to understand basic email and printing and if you can SAVE THEM MONEY by scanning and emailing your paperwork from the truck! No fax costs (what a dinosaur that waste of money is) or trip pak expenses!
Just simple internet usage and heck you'll foot the broadband bill unless they would like to contribute maybe $10 a month to it! Just think no more rushing to a box or scanner to make that deadline! Straight from the truck! Ain't technology great if everyone knew how to use it! I won't bring up TransAm as they were MORONS about it in 2003!
Just remember, once you start to do it the same way every time you can't screw up as it becomes a habit!Wargames, BarnDog, Strider and 1 other person Thank this. -
I admit I have rediscovered missing papers in the trash it can happen.

You can get those metal clipboard boxes at Wal Mart. They're a life saver...

Very well said, Rollover, this should be cut and paste on a Post here. so all the Newbies, can read such good information like this. All the newbies that chat on this forum, dont realize the Amount of Information from guys like you, and many others, that is available. But if they come on here, with no respect for any Veteran Driver, then they shall never get any help from us.JimDriv3r Thanks this.

No sweat, When I worked for Witte Bros, back in 2004 I lost the entire book of ladings. I called the boss, he threw a huge tantrum (had every right to do so) then said, don't worry about it. 2 days later he had all the ladings faxed to him.
