I was wondering this today, since I have been fortunate enough to not experience this first hand
If you are in your own vehicle, or driving any other vehicle that is not a CMV, and you get pulled over by a LEO, once he sees your CDL will he/can he ask for your medical card? Or is that only asked for while in the truck?
Reason I ask is while at work, I carry my wallet, which has everything in it, you know what I mean. If I am home, and want to head out in a pair of shorts, I dont want that bulky thing with me so I pack a small money clip with my license, debit card, and maybe cash. Never grab the medical card. Should I?

No.
They have no interest or need to see a medical card unless you are in a commercial vehicle. -
What he said.

Please inform us what an LEO is. That is not a common acronym at all!
SheepDog and just lil me Thank this. -
Even if you are in a commercial vehicle, many operations do not require a medical card...remember the old in one state/100 air mile/non-hazmat exemptions....not a lot of those jobs around, but some folks use a CDL, no medical.
Can you tell I just went through this stuff in school a couple weeks ago!

and thanks to those who answered!JimDriv3r Thanks this. -
must not be here in CA, because you cannot even apply for a CDL learners permit without your card. I had to give it to the girl behind the counter at the DMV. Then for my drive test, I had to hand over my permit and medical card.

Must be a local thing.
Here you have to have a medical card in a commercial vehicle. -
Nope...in the federal rules...INTRA state, <100 miles, med not required...Think dump-truck driver is the most common user of this rule, but the weight limit does not matter...same for 10-26k as it is for 26K+...but most Ins company's make it a requirement, so most do it by default...same for logbooks/hours of service...not needed by the same group...Driving rules,Par 392..the prohibition against driving tired/impaired etc still holds for all Commercial vehicles, so they can still ticket a driver who was impaired for medical or rest reasons....after the fact.
I was surprised too, but since very few operations meet these rules, most everybody get a medical. The fact they checked you in CA before the test shows that CA truely believes they are the republic of CA....guess they must have a state rule to supper-seed the federal that is more strict.
But I do agree...if you are in a commercial vehicle, just have a current medical. -
Need a DOT medical before applying for CDL permit in Indiana as well
