I ain't the sharpest knife in the drawer and don't know all the tricks, but this made it easy for even me to make sense of 4k mileage on one week's check.
I've learned a lot from JB, Lobo and the other guys on this thread - a few times I've had to cipher on it a little.:smt115

My God, I'm gone 2 days and this blog turns to poo poo. I'm only going to say this one thing, and you all know who I'm speaking to. I was having second thoughts about continuing this thread until I read the entries from the regular followers. I want to thank you all for your support, it's because of folks like you that I will carry on with this. Thanks everyone, you know who you are!

I decided to take my wife with me on Monday. I was going to be around the house all day unloading and reloading so she decided to spend the day with me on the truck. My wife is a long time Realtor and was able to do her work from my truck. All I had to do was take her laptop, a scanner plus her Blackberry and she was good to go. Before I left the house I called up to Mort in safety and got it cleared with the company for her to ride with me for the day. I was faxed an authorization form and left the house at 8:30 to drive to the west coast of Florida to make my delivery.
We are the proud owners of one chocolate lab (Coco) and one yellow lab (Honey), I figured we should be back home around 5pm so the dogs were ok home alone. I had a reefer trailer that I picked up at our customer in Lewisburg Pa. I was already preplanned for a lettuce load going back to Jersey. I got to my delivery at noon, we haul playground equipment and everything associated with this type load is time sensitive. The crew was waiting for me as I arrived and I was unloaded in an hour and a half.
I then drove back to Belle Glade and got checked in for my lettuce at 4:30. This is where it all goes to garbage. I finally got loaded at 9pm and by the time I scaled out and drove home I had burned up my 14 hours. I had enough time to park my truck and go home to take my 10. Driving from the truck to the house my wife was asking me what I thought the dogs had done in the house. I told her I was hoping for the best. We got in the house right at 10pm and both dogs were doing a dance to be let out. They behaved better than alot of people do. I took a shower and went to bed. I got up and left the house after my 10 was up.
I called Louie and told him what time I left the shipper the night before and that I wasn't going to be able to make my noon appt. the next day, I told him I would be there at 5pm and he said that wouldn't be a problem. I got to the receiver at 4 this afternoon and was empty by 5. Louie called and asked me if I needed to come back to the yard for anything, I told him no and he sent over my reload info. Go back to Lewisburg, drop and hook and be in Burbank Ca. Tuesday at 8am. Gary dropped his load in the yard and bobtailed to one of our customers by the yard and is headed to Las Vegas for Monday. Right now we are both at Lamar Pa taking our 10. I will update my travels as I cross the country. Keep the peace all, God Bless!Hitman and The Challenger Thank this. -
Do you live load the lettuce from the field? When I first started driving I hauled sod, alot of which came from High Hat Ranch in Sarasota. I recall seeing the Mexican guys taking van trailers directly to the fields and loading up, is this how it works with most fresh veggies and fruit? I've talked to quite a few of those Mexican drivers when I hauled sod, they had it all figured out and had trailers for seemingly every season, flatbeds to haul sod when the harvest was not in season, and reefer trailers to run out west and up north when produce was in season. I don't care what anyone says about their nationality, they were some of the hardest working, nicest guys I've ever met, just seems to me that they're thankful to be working and don't take anything for granted. Guess I could learn a thing or two from them......
