I started as on OTR owner operator and after a year I decided to work local here in Miami . I've been doing so for the last 5 years and now just started with a new company back OTR . It's been a while but I just finished the first run. I am running under there authority and there insurance and there trailer (53 reef). Now they are taking 17% of the load and 150 for insurance weekly. I figured they have many o/o working for them so lets give it a try. I just finished the first run out of Miami ,FL to FLorence ,NJ 33,489 lbs and it paid 1,700. Before the 17%. My next load I am picking up south of Philly going to pasedena ,tx and a second stop in Laredo ,tx for 2,400. My question is . What do you guys think ? Is this fair ? I mean to me it sucks i think.. Please any feed back will be great as I am thinking to load back to Miami from texasand quit.
What do guys think..

Are you getting FSC on top of rates you posted? What insurance does the $150/week cover? Who pays for reefer fuel? First load pays you $1.14/mile, second $1.04/mile. Doesn't seem enough to me, especially into those areas with tolls and all.
rocknroll nik, SweetSouthernRide, walleye and 1 other person Thank this. -
What's the insurance for? Truck related or health insurance? What about FSC? Plates? Deadhead miles? Tolls? 17% means you're getting 83%, right?
-
If they charged you for everything, like insurance, their plate, and you pay the quarterly fuel tax, and you drag their trailer, I'd say for them to take 17% and you get 83% sounds fair to me on the surface. I say that with the notion you get into some decent paying loads, which so far going of what you posted isnt the case.
However, you live in, or are at least based in Miami, a crappy area (6 months of the year) for freight dollar wise. If you are going to haul freight that pays just over a buck, dont take it into an area that also pays just a buck a mile.
Now you're in texas, a spot that will likely give the third leg of your trip another buck a mile. (depending on where to)
IMO, on this trip you are hovering around breaking even or loosing money.walleye, Skunk_Truck_2590, SweetSouthernRide and 1 other person Thank this. -
what happened to the flatbed adventure?! did it go that badly? I can't comment on reefer from exp. but those rates certainly seem low

The 150 weekly is for cargo insurance.. Dose not cover me or my truck.. And no that's all I get no fsc. As far as the plates and permits on the truck i am responsible for. they put up is the trailer , load , and authority .tag ,ifta ,hut, kyu, and new Mexico are my responsibility . I pay for my tractor fuel and reefer fuel. Oh and I am reponsible for tires on the trailer. They will fix the unit if it breaks down but not the any tire blow outs on the trailer..
-
I am still trying to get into that . I just needed some money for the end of year and decided to stick to what I know ( reefers) but I going to Try The flat beds in January ...
-
it don't seem like enough to me either, i think you could find a better deal
walleye Thanks this. -
You pay for trailer tires AND reefer fuel? And base plates and IFTA? Yikes....Not a very good deal......
-
Bad deal.
Good for the company since they have you paying for almost everything and hauling their cheap freight. We make 80% of the load, all FSC, and tarping. None of us will move under $2 per mile. Unless of course we have a second leg setup that will pay us a load more per mile. Then we will haul a lower rate into the area. Never at a loss or just break even though.TommyZ Thanks this.
