It would be a possibility when the prices make "cents" As of now it is not cost effective.

That and from what I've heard, May trucks are leased, and installing apu's is pretty invasive. Just one of the reasons I've heard. Bare in mind I'm a:newb:

I heard this was going to happen late next year. Can anyone confirm if the few 2011 KWs they have are running APUs? I know those trucks are running up and down the hippie hallway out west, so it would make sense

Pretty sure the new KWs don't have them installed. Also I understand that It might not worth it to the company, but then why did they put up false info on their website then?

I would guess that they might have a few test trucks out there that have them. While they test the costs of having them and what it actually saves over the life of the truck while they have it. I do not know if they do or not.

I find it interesting that the 2012s do NOT have APUS still...

No may truck has an apu I was told they don't last two truck lives meaning 500,000 miles.
But is 20% enough idle time in the summer? Or are we just helping may with fuel cost? I believe a better idle policy needs to be found that would not only benefit may but help us drivers get the rest we need to to perform our job safely.

May's idling policy is outdated. They need to change it. Without an APU or alternative cooling source in the truck, who pays for the DEQ fine if you get caught idling in a no idle State?

Honestly the idle policy was my only concern with May. Now that I'm actually out here dealing with it it's hotter than I thought. I called in for idle time and they approved and just said to track how long.

I have no idea how anyone could sit in 96+ temps with 70% humidity without idling. It's a challenge to stay comfortable. A fan and spray bottle only work so much. Just idling for 2 hrs brought my percentage to 14%. I understand the need to save on fuel and that fact that many would over idle if the noose was loosened but there has to be a happy medium.

I found myself feeling guilty for idling those 2 hrs but it was also the most relaxing time I've spent in the sleeper.

Blasting the ac before you park only keeps things cool for about 20 min. During the day.

If I wasn't so broke (just started, nothing on May there) I'd seriously be looking into a generator and portable ac. That's probably a $2k price tag there but it might be better than sweating to death. LOL
