This is what i have a problem with my brother and law works for a company that there trucks have a speed governor at 63mph on top of that cant idle his truck than thay put electric onboard recorders on all there trucks now he cant drive 600 miles with out having to stop for the night
People are going broke becuse thay cant make any money is this going to help hell know it takes me 3-4 hours just to get loaded and 3-4 hours to get unloaded so if i have to drive over 250 miles im #####
Whats bad is i see guys(mexicans)all the time dont look like thay have sleep in days trucks beat to ##### need tires and if you been to houston,tx you know what im talking about were is the DOT at for these guys insted i have a nice new clean truck and trailer thay pull me over when i ask why thay say its easer to DOT a clean truck

I will say this if it gets any worse im going to sale my stuff and become a DOT officer than them guys better watch out

I think the post 2003 HOS rules are crap anyway. If I work a 14 hour day I feel like a slacker. Before 2003 18-20 aday was the norm. I have been a member of the 100 hour club more than once.

I wonder how well that explanation goes over when given to the friendly DOT bear?????

    I'm guessing not too well.

But isn't that why FMCSA is trying to have only 13 work/driving hours in the 14; so there is a built-in 1 hour period where you have to rest/break during that 14?

I personally never had a problem with the 14 hour rule, but then I'm new to the buisness. I'd run any time of day but if I started the week at 9am somehow by Friday, I'd be starting my day at 2am.

Also since I didn't want to run afoul of the 70 hr rule, I'd budget my hours. I figured if you ran more than 9 hours a day you'd be out of hours by sunday anyway. I never could get dispatch to run me that had anyway, I think I had maybe 5 11 hour runs in 2 years. So in a sense I don't see how this would affect me.

The biggest problem I see is this is effectivly a 10% paycut for OTR drivers chained to mileage pay. Especially the poor SOB's in governed trucks. If people thought they weren't mainkng enough now I can only see this hurt more as some drivers will be limited to 550 miles per day MAX. At $.28 per mile,,, $154 per day less $30 for truckstop junkfood. Yet the same government has upped minimum wage to almost $8.50/hr.

Pretty soon McDonalds WILL be a better job than trucking.
