Hello to all, I am currently considering a couple different companies to "work for" to get my CDL.
I am just wondering what kind of equipment Central curently runs (i.e truck types, automatics, etc.)
Thanks for the help

Check the Central truck stop thread in Fav company's. That is where the drivers hang out.
Mostly you will see some Volvo's (getting short on them though, all due for trade), Prostar's, and off lease Pete's and KW's.
Can sometimes get lucky and get a good one, other times not. It is whatever is available. I am not currently a driver there though, so you can ask in that other thread and see if they can give you a better idea.
Oh, and no crap auto's -
Currently we have the following:
Company Trucks (can be leased)
'08-'09 Volvo VNL670s
'10-'11 International Prostar Eagles
Lease trucks used as Company trucks on occasion
'08 Kenworth T2000s
'09 Kenworth W900s
Lease trucks only
'09-'10 Kenworth T2000s
'10 Kenworth W900s
'11 International Prostar Limiteds
'09 Peterbilt 387s
'10 Peterbilt 386s
All have Cummins engines and 9-or-13-speed transmissions, except '08 Volvos have Volvo engines (most company trucks have 9 speeds, some ex-lease trucks may have 13 speeds.) -
The Volvo 670's all had 10 speeds when I was with them. That is a change.
Are you sure?
The 10 speed pattern has 1st and 6th under reverse. A 9 speed has 1st and 5th together to the right of reverse. -
They are 9 speeds.
R - 1/5 - 3/7
L - 2/6 - 4/8 -
Yea, I screwed up on my discription though. Since Low is under reverse. Thus the 9 speeds. I realised it in the middle of the night and did not want to get up and fix the post.
I use to drive an actual 8 speed years ago. Was an odd pattern.
1/5 - 4/8
2/6 - 3/7
Was called a "california 8" according to people at work. We had a few trucks with it. I had a heck of a time trying to train road drivers how to shift it. -
Got a question about Leasing and Equipment.
At Central, when a company driver makes the call to go lease with them, do they get NEW trucks or are they given some of the used trucks that are left overs? -
They are givin a choice of what is available.
Some will want a brand new truck. Others will Opt for the slightly used truck with the shorter lease term.
The length of time they will lease the trucks is a set term. Due to the fact that central does not own any trucks, they lease them from the leasing company.
Then they release them to you.
So if a new truck is available and you want it, you will get it.
If a good used one is available that you like you can get that one.
I would steer towards the used ones with around 200k miles.
Most of the new truck bugs are worked out of them, so the maintenance down time will be less.
Plus the lease payments will be lower.
Having said all of that, I have read Centrals lease. I would not sign that thing for less than 1.15 per mile plus the fsc.Lady K Thanks this. -
To lease a truck outside of CRS - and then run FOR CRS - is that possible? If so - any suggestions where to lease a truck from? Just thinking of options BEFORE we get there
-
I do not believe they allow that. Or they were not for a while.
When I worked for them they allowed owner OP's to come in with there own equipment. So at that point it would have worked.
Last I heard they were no longer allowing that though.
I would not lease. Run for a year as a company team. You will make decent money that way. Save some up and then buy a truck and get on with another company.Lady K Thanks this.
