Fridges?

I see fridges in Swift trucks. You can see Bigcat Trucker cooking in his truck and grabbing the food right out of a fridge.

Don't know about the Swift issue, but as far as ice goes... Pilot and Loves both allow you to bring in your own cup/container for FREE ice. If you use their cups (new one each time) it's $.50. I've not taken in the small cooler yet, but have taken 3 large cups to refill the cooler and they said it was fine. Downfall to this, that ice doesn't last as long as the ice in the bags from the "ice cooler".

 

Most Swift trucks I've been in have a 12v hook up already in the fridge spot. If not, you can just run it to the bunk outlet. Just search Google for 12v coolers.

Now understand that a fridge will maintain temp, and a cooler will drop 30 degrees below actual (inside truck) temp. The one I used had a thermostat, but would only go down 30 degrees over truck temp. That way nothing froze, and it used less battery power.

Speaking on this, Anyone know a good one that fits into the volvo compartment well?

 

Most of the units (I've seen) on the 'net have measurements. Breakout the trusty ruler and your favorite search engine! (Someone thought I was advertising for Google!)

 

After a moments research, mine was a Koolatron C-18. Has wheels, 12v plug, 1 shelf and the fan is easily replaceable. Mine is 1.5 years old and works like a champ. It can be used upright or laying down. I use it for food. Got mine on web at $100.

I also use a 9 can cooler (available at TA and Pilot, $25-$30) for my sodas (and a coffee cup stand since the cup holder was designed by a moron). Fits perfectly between the shifter and seat on a Freightshaker and is great for daycabs too.

I've tried most all of them. Coleman's, Igloo and the RoadPro one. The best one i found was actually the RoadPro cooler. Though i've heard high praises about the coleman. Maybe i just got a bad one, and wouldnt keep things cold. I like my milk for my morning breakfast COLD....not luke-warm. So i ended up just going with a regular ice cooler. Yeah, it sucks, every other day having to empty out the water, and top it off with ice. And having to wipe off everything you pull out so you dont drip water all over. but hey, least my milk was COLD.

As far as actual fridges go....the only way to have one of those frat-fridges (or man-cave fridges) is to run it off a 1500-2000w inverter. BigKittyCat has one either because he's Swift's posterboy, or because he has a medical condition with a doctors note saying he needs one. Dunno what the case is....

I'm looking at a fridge to get from Kenworth. this truck already has a switch in the bunk for fridge power, and a plug with a male end already wired. Thinking if i went with a frat-fridge, i'd probably end up having to run it off my 2000w inverter. The actual KW fridge will run about $600...where the frat-fridge will run about $200....so i'm leanin' on going with the frat-fridge.....

 

I have seen real fridges that are 12V. Colemans and the like are not fridges.

 

I took the Bottom part of the Seat out of my Passenger side, Put a board there and strapped in a Small Curtis Fridge, Love it. i can reach in with out taking my eyes off of the road and grab a cold one....... Mt. Dew that is......
