hmmm welll if somebody comes from pakistan--i kinda think they are a paki--nothing racial about it--i dont go for the part of how some people have to be politically correct and others dont
and well i hope that shipper learned a lesson--you get what you pay for
another thing that got me going today---looking on job site--and a good % of the adds say"must know punjabi"--or russian---last time i looked english and french were the languages of canada
but on the other hand--it is a good sign to not bother calling those companies to begin with--its kinda like a big red stop sign(with a turban on top)

Paki is just short for Pakistani which is someone from Pakistan. Don't confuse them with East Indians from India. :biggrin_25520:

I have yet to hear anyone say "Paki" in anything other than a derogative way. It's never a description. It's a racial slur. There's no way to cover that up.

. In modern British usage "Paki" is typically used in a derogatory way as a label for all South Asians, including Indians, Afghans and Bangladeshis. To a lesser extent, the term has been applied as a racial slur towards Arabs and other Middle Eastern-looking groups who may resemble South Asians. During the 60's many emigrants were also dubbed as "black" to further segregrate them from the white community. Some would say such a division still exists in parts of England.
In recent times there has been a trend by second and third-generation British Pakistanis to reclaim the word ( much the same as AFRICAN AMERICANS use the 5 letter N word ). The word has been turned into a keepsake for the young British Pakistani community that is not acceptable for someone outside the community to say it, including Indians and Bangladeshis.

The bigotry and ignorance in this thread embarrasses me to be associated with these other Canadians.

I was born and raised in Brampton. No wonder you presume they prefer to keep to themselves, would you want to associate with people who talk about you like this.

I am truly disgusted by this continued bigotry. Try to be a little more tolerant.

i as well find it very racist, and illegal to hire drivers who only speak a certain language, which isnt one of the two official languages of canada
but because i refuse to put my head in the sand and pretend to not notice--others dont approve
Canada and united states are countrys based on immigration--for people to come, better their lives, boost the economy and assimilate with other canadians--not to form their own little cliques, refuse to speak the language, and not hire out of their own race
can you imagine if an ad for a job read"only anglo canadians to apply"---the person would get sued
but to say "must speak punjabi" seems to be ok for some
seems to be a double standard here

If the requirements for getting a license were more stringent, then regardless of color, there would be far fewer drivers out here causing problems.

What we fail to recognise as drivers is that most of the guys out here causing problems (regardless of their nature) are pretty much unemployable in most other industries and that translates into the fact that these problem drivers aren't leaving trucking anytime soon. We're stuck with them until we take action.

The written driving test aren't offered in Punjabi or Farsi. French and English only. So maybe their knowledge of the language is greater than you think. Maybe they just don't want to talk to you.

when you can have a translator sitting there telling you the correct answer---so simple,a cave man could do it--and that is exactely what you have
immigrant schools doing licensing for drivers--team trucks with 3 drivers and one license--an east indian driver union/monopoly---the list goes on and on

Supposedly the MOT have hired or are hiring PUNJAB inspectors to handle the Non Canadian drivers and their CRYING its not in their LANGUAGE , wheres the NATIONALITY based inspectors for the other drivers that get called non appropriate names German ( Krauts , Square heads) , Polish ( Poles or DPs ) Italian ( Wops ) that make up a BIGGER portion ofr CANADA than the minority but treated like majority of immigrants from the Middle East.
