The big problem I see if they push people to lease, if they have one load, and one lease truck and one company truck, I can see it going to the lease truck. That way the cost and wear and tear of the equipment goes on the lease truck and the leasee pays it and not the company.

I am not really sure if the planners even look at it that way.
And if you look at comments from owner Op's at other company's the complaint is normally the other way.
They all think that the company guys get the best loads. Since the cost is lower.
You are paying a beginning driver less than .33 cpm. Fuel is in the .35-40 cpm range, and lease payment on the truck is probably just slightly less than the lease drivers are paying.
They are paying the lease drivers close to .90 or something (not really sure anymore). So they can make more profit on the company truck in the short term.
They are not worried about wear and tear on the trucks. They are leased, they do not own them anyway, and are under warranty.
The company makes more money in the long run on the leases due to not paying for routine maintenance, tires and other wear parts.
Also because they get to keep the balloon payment money that is paid in during the lease for over mileage.
Plus when enough money is made by the truck to pay it off, then central will buy it out and sell it for full retail.
They also do not have to pay social security, unemployment, or any other taxes on lease Ops. So they save on that as well.
In a trucking company your largest cost is Fuel, followed by payroll, then tires, and lastly truck payments.
So by hiring lease Ops they cut out 2 of those 3 costs. -
Chrome has an excellent point. Never, ever buy a new truck! Trust me! Get a good used one like Chrome said with about 200,000. Let someone else go through all that bug working out crap! Believe most of these trucks are lemons brand new! Another thing too is that Central gets some of the first trucks off the assembly line. I found that out that hard way! This means they don't make parts for them yet. I waited 2 months for a radiator one time! As soon as that was fixed I ran for a week and had a faulty fuel pedal assembly. That was another six weeks! I can't tell you enough, don't buy a new truck!!!!!!!!!!!

Another Central Equipment question - we will be driving a 'company' truck - most likely without an APU (unless we win the truck lottery - LOL) ... if we get an inverter (of which we already have) can we have the shop install it? Or is having an installed inverter a no go for 'company' drivers - kind of like a benny for leasing a truck.
-
You can have the shop install it.
I actually put mine in myself when I was with them, and then had the shop inspect it to insure it was in correctly and sign off on it. -
they will not allow you to lease somewhere else and bring it to central jerry owns the leasing co that central and swift lease from
-
So in other words, they have you by the jewels then!
If they leave you set somewhere or decide not to run you, you can't pickup your toys and go elsewhere. -
exactly they got you by the nuts alright do as chrome said run a yr as a co driver then move on somewere else like jct or national carriersLast edited by a moderator: Dec 26, 2010

This isn't true.... I have talked to one driver that has done it. Plus, leasing has told me that if I don't like what they have in inventory I can get my own and bring it back.
