But what will the dispatchers do if they can't keep pounding their heads on the desk?

    Okay another USA story:

My fear of the all-seeing Qualcomm was abolished when two seperate units on two different trucks failed three times in 18 months. That and I found a spot in the Bronx on my days off where the tall buildings and overhead subway rails effectively hid the truck from communications.

It proved so innacurate dispatchers would often CALL for my 20. (and eat up my phone minutes.)
One time I got so sick of the BS, dispatch called and asked, "where are you?"

Me: "Where I'm supposed to be."

    "Where's that?"

"Remember you had me pick up in Kentucky yesterday?"

    "Yeah?"

"And I'm delivering to Deleware tomorrow at 8am,,,"

    "Yeah,"

"I'm somewhere between the two,,, *click*"

This on bad directions.Had a load of nabisco cookies going to flowers bakery in crossville tn.The qualcom tells me to get off on genesis rd.(exit332)I believe, turn right to the north,I think it said 2 miles to the address specified on the qualcomm.Well needless to say if anybody has been that direction north of crossville, its not really conducive to 70 foot tractor trailers.Anyway get to the address, its a mobil home on the side of the road.On the mailbox it says,Mr and Mrs Flowers.Well Im pretty certain Im not gonna be unloading 40000 lbs. of chocalate chip cookies in a singlewide trailer.Well at least Igot a good story out of it.LOL

My truck is having ABS/traction control failure issues and I'm at the ice/snow covered exit gate area. Every time I try and go forward, the traction control locks up the drive tires. I call fleet manager and explain problem and ask for tow truck because I'm blocking the gate. He says "hang on a minute"...... I then hear faint discussions over the phone. He cames back and says-"We talked it over and we think your trailer brakes are on... release your trailer brakes."

Back in '72 my dispatcher gave me a meat load that was set for delivery on CHRISTMAS DAY at A&P in Edison, NJ... when I got there for my appt. it was me and the padlocked gate staring at each other.

    Never again....

How about the phone calls from one dispatcher asking where you are right after getting off the phone or are still on the phone with another dispatcher.

Or the call at 3 am wanting to know when you are going to deliver the load that you delivered at midnight and all ready called in empty for.
